  • Why does seltzer water not "count" toward the daily requirement?

Is this in DANDR? Did I miss it? I know seltzer water (without artificial sweeteners, etc.) is specifically authorized in the book as OK to drink, but for the life of me, I can't recall the part where it says that it doesn't "count" towards the recommended daily intake.

Can someone enlighten me on this?

    Thanks very much...

    Chapter 18, page 230.

The "official" reason is because seltzer is carbonated and it is believed not be as efficient as filtered, mineral or spring water in eliminating toxins. I don't know how true this is, but that's why it doesn't count towards your minimum 64 oz.

Hi Georgiana - I read this section again last night. Is it me, or does this only apply to induction? It's in an induction list. How does it jive with page 127 (where club soda is listed)....? So confusing...!

No, what counts as water is the same for all phases. You are allowed to drink club soda and seltzer even during Induction, just don't count them towards your water intake.

I'm not sure if I understood your question...

Gotcha. I think what initially confused me is the difference between being OK to drink and how it's counted.

I dont know why it doesnt count, however having lived in Germany most my life (where bubbly seltzer water is the norm anywhere you go) It is not as refreshing and doesnt seem to quench my thirst as well all plain ole water does.
