  • Gained a few pounds back from total loss while in ketosis...

Hi! I'm new here, but I've been on Atkins for 2 months now. I've been in constant ketosis, but seem to be on a plateau right now. My clothes are certainly looser but my weight has crept up about 2-3 lbs from my 22 lb loss. It is a little discouraging to say the least. I have been eating some things that have a high salt content (marinated meat using soy sauce, pork rinds, hot dogs, etc.) but don't know how much (or even if) I should attribute this to the weight gain. Other than walking from normal activities, I don't exercise very much so it isn't muscle weight. Has anyone gained some weight back while in ketosis?
    :confused
    Thanks!

If you´re not gaining muscle it could be retention. Try to avoid salt.

And do some sport! Remember it´s not negotiable and your body will be thankful!

If it is salt extra water will help wash out the problem.

I agree on the salt idea. I had bought a ham to have at easter and darn it if i didn't gain a couple pounds. now the ham is gone and i'm flushing with lots of water, and the meat of the day yesterday and today for me is tuna so i expect to see the extra drop right off. this morning saw me back down a half pound. as well i had stepped up the exercise yesterday and this will be a pretty full week of gym time. I'm going to go at least 5 times this week. with 3 of those using weights during the workout. the exercise will certainly help move the water through your system to help get rid of any retention from salt you will find with more exercise it gets easier to drink enough water as you get really thirsty when working out and need to replenish.

I agree about the salt...why not cut those foods out of your diet and see what happens.
And do get yourself out there and moving around :yes
For starters, just go for walks three times a week...walk briskly for 10 or 15 minutes, any direction, then turn around and come back....voila! a 20 or 30 minute walk done!

I started that on Jan 31st, and now I'm running my whole route!

Hi and welcome. Yup, exercise is part of this woe. There are exercise challenges on this board to help get you going on this, just check out that forum! If you're not already, perhaps keeping a food journal, or using fitday.com and really keep an eye on everything that you're putting into mouth. Fitday is great too to see if you're eating the 65% fat, 30% protein, 5% carbs ratios that we strive for during induction.

Thanks folks - I'll limit the salty foods and increase my activity. I'll report back in a few days to tell you how it's going.

Re: Gained a few pounds back from total loss while in ketosis...

Hello ladies! I am having the same issues. I only lost 9 pounds in the past month (the first time I tried this diet I lost 14 pounds the first two weeks). I have been stalled for the past 2 and a half weeks. I haven't added anything except a few nuts (10 macadamias a few times a week) this is allowed according to the phase I am in and what is stated in the book. A average meal for me is a boiled egg with either 2 strips of sugar free bacon or string cheese for breakfast, grilled chicken (from home with salt and pepper only), salad with Waldan Farms dressing for lunch, and baked meat, green veggie for dinner. If I need a snack I will have sardines, porkrinds, sting cheese or cucumber with dressing. I read my labels very careful and drink enough water. I walk for 30- 35 minutes a day.

I will definetly take the suggestions that you ladies have said.

If you overeat your Atkins you can gain weight, while being in ketosis. So are you still eating the same amount of food you have been eating since the beginning? Or have you been eating only the amount of food your smaller body needs?

                    Megs is correct
Ketosis will not always mean weight loss.

I would watch the nitrates as well in bacon and hot dogs. the additives can be harsh on your body and cause you to retain a great deal of water. Try pure meats for a while, up your water and exercise and see how that works.
