  • Cream Cheese - Salmon

Philly makes a cream cheese with salmon. It has two carbs. I love salmon and was thinking of tyring it....has anyone tried it. Do you htink two carbs is not worth the try?

Well, it's not only about carbs. One tablespoon of soy flour also has 2 net carbs, and so do 2 large baby carrots. Always check the ingredients.

This is what the cream cheese you're talking about contains:
Pasteurized Nonfat Milk, and Milkfat, Whey, Smoked Salmon, Whey Protein Concentrate, Salt, Cheese Culture, Monosodium Glutamate, Sugar, Stabilizers (Xanthan Gum, and or Carob Bean Gum, and or Guar Gum), Natural Smoke Flavor, Sorbic Acid, As A Preservative Oleoresin Paprika, (Color) Sodium Nitrite, Red 40, Vitamin A Palmitate.
It has milk/whey, which are only "legal" in OWL Rung 2. Plus, it has sugar. This stuff is just processed nastiness, imo. I wouldn't eat it.

<pouts> I guess I will just stick with whipped cream cheese if I "need" to have it.

Cream cheese tastes wonderful. It also makes me hungry.I don't eat it because it makes me crave something else.Being lean trumps eating something tasty for me.

Look around your grocery store's fish department. Occasionally, you will find "smoked salmon" ends or pieces. Just chop that up and add to softened cream cheese. And you'll have the Philly product without all the excess.

I like to use left over salmon from dinner, a bit of hickory liquid smoke, cream cheese and I put this in the food processor. Out comes a wonderful legal dip for my veggies.

Totally off this subject...but I will never be able to add grains in any way shape or form. Doc says essentially I will get up to one or two of the rungs and thats about it.
Looks like one long extended induction for me as I have Celiac Disease.

Well - grains are only the last of the OWL rungs, so it may not be too bad.

Eating Atkins might help your body heal itself enough as to allow more than your doctor thinks at present.

When you move to OWL you might find you will be able to add nuts and berries as well as more veggies and dairy products (the first 2 rungs).

At least you will be able to find your CCLL even if you stay on the lower OWL rungs so eternal induction is not necessarily your future.
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?

I agree with Elizellen. Grains are the last thing you add during OWL Phase. And your Celiac Disease doesn't exclude you from eating nuts, fruits, starchy veggies, and legumes. It may not exclude you from eating non-gluten containing grains like amaranth, rice and corn, either--only wheat and other gluten containing or contaminated grains.

                        Re: Cream Cheese - Salmon

Right, I have for many years tried those grains and they don't agree with me so unless it's soy, corn or rice flour, I can't have it. It's a shame.

I've also found with this, my carb limit is seemingly very low. I have tired the 3 cups per day but for whatever reason because my system is so sensitive the veggies don't digest. You get the idea. The veggies that do ok are tomatoes and onions so far. Lettuce...is horrible to my system...so are mushrooms.

Waking up this morning I realize I have to start clean and try one veggie a day, unfortunately lettuce not being one of them.

                        I feel great though.
