  • Glycogen depletion

I am aware that during normal dieting, you have to wait for glycogen to be depleted before there is any fat loss. Is it the same way with the low carb diet?

Dolph, you might want to get your hands on a copy of Atkins and give it a read through. Even if you decide it's not for you, it'll give you a good idea of the 'why' behind low carb.

Basically (and I'm sure someone will chime in with something more technical) the answer is yes.

One of the requirements for being in your own fat burning ketosis is the lack of glycogen (aka cheap, easy fuel) left in the body. You are right then to say low carbers already have a head start in burning through glycogen and getting down to fat burning. It might only take 2-5 minutes to burn through the 80 Calories from the carbohydrates you are eating daily. Of course, that could mean it is the fat or protein you eat -OR- the fat already present in th body.
