  • Liver Function Tests - Help

So, I have elevated liver enzymes: ALT-71, AST-32--these were taken about 5 months ago. I'm assuming they are elevated from being overweight and college drinking.

My doc, who is very against atkins but not so much south beach, is very bent on having me go into OWL since rapid weight loss can be bad for the liver. I've been on induction for 23 days and have lost 21 lbs.

Since I've gotten then news about the enzymes, I haven't had a drop of alcohol since.

What are you thoughts on this? Of course I want to stay on induction, but I'd hate to do it at the cost of hurting myself. Maybe I should get another test to see if they've dropped at all?

    Thanks,
    Adam

Re: Liver Function Tests - Help

I had blood work done that came back I had "fatty liver" so I've been on Atkins since January and the last blood work I had said my numbers were more in line -- I'm having another blood panel done within the next 30 days and am hoping for more good news.

Doctors that don't approve of Atkins always want their patients to go directly to OWL because they have no clue this is a healthy way of eating....most doctors believe we only eat meat and cheese - no veggies -- that's why they believe it's dangerous.

Good for you dropping the booze -- it's not good for you when you are trying to loose weight anyway -- maybe that was your wake up call before things got out of hand.

I can't tell you what to do that is your decision - I just wanted you to know that being on Atkins has helped my numbers. I don't have my old results in front of me so I can't give you exact numbers - but my doctor was extremely happy with the results.

you prob already know this and it wont be that helpful but remmber to drink atleast 64 ounces of water a day

theres toxins in the fat you lose or something and your body needs to flush them toxins out and it does that better when you drink lots of water

Move to OWL. Many people lose just as quickly or even faster on OWL and you are rapidly dropping weight. Plus OWL will teach you how to figure out the foods that cause problems for you and train you step by step how to maintain your loss long term. Move up. You will be fine. No carbs does not equate to faster loss.

It's not about the results. Its about the process.

I agree with Jill - moving to OWL now will help you discover your CCLL and any foods that affect you badly as well as expanding your food choices.
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
