At the end of the 2 week induction down 10 pounds. I decided to stick to extended induction. Over 3 weeks later and no more weight lose. I decided to buy l-carnitine took 2000mgs the next day down a poundit was wedsnday. Thurday, friday the same. Today I'm down 2 pounds and my tom starts tomorrow. No water weight gain? I called my doc this morning he said the weight lose is fine as long as I feel ok. I haven't changed my eating habits or portions. In fact I over did my carbs last night having mock pizza. I was worried I might go out of ketosis because I used to very easily before. But I lost an extra pound. Has anyone else had results like this taking 2000mgs of l-carnitine. Updating still losing 1 pound a day even during tom but will not weigh until next week.

Re: Having great results taking l-carnitine.
I'm glad you've had success, but you should put out a "your mileage may vary" warning. It's certainly troubling that you had no weight loss after 3 weeks of induction starting with a BMI of 38, so there may have been other factors at play when your weight loss actually did start.
Currently, there are no controlled studies out there that show carnitine supplementation is effective for weight loss.
L-Carnitine supplementation combined with aerobic ...[Int J Sport Nutr Exerc Metab. 2000] - PubMed Result
For 8 weeks the L-C group ingested 2 g twice daily of L-C, while the placebo (P) group ingested the same amount of lactose. All subjects walked for 30 min (60-70% maximum heart rate) 4 days/week. Body composition, resting energy expenditure (REE) and substrate utilization were estimated before and after treatment. For the subjects who completed the study (15 P, 13 L-C), no significant changes in mean total body mass (TBM), fat mass FM, and resting lipid utilization occurred over time, nor were there any significant differences between groups for any variable.

Re: Having great results taking l-carnitine.
I have had 1 person email me saying that they had results in the last 3 days of a 2 pound after taking it. Who know if it was that or not. So to each his own. I never made anyone promises nor am I selling anything. If it helps someone it does if it doesnt it doesnt. I'm losing almost 2 pounds a day. Next week I will stop taking them and see what happens. I just wanted to tell my story. Have you taken it. Did it not work for you?

Re: Having great results taking l-carnitine.
I've taken it briefly in the past when I was initially dropping weight, but I was taking additional supplements as well so I can't say for sure which pill was helping out. I majored in nutritional biochemistry and I'm currently a first year medical student (2nd year in about 10 days), so I've kind of gotten in the habit of telling people to not rely on just anecdotal evidence, but try to find some substantiation for claims made about supplements. As it stands, the evidence right now isn't too compelling. However, I'd love to see the results of the "mini-study" you're planning next week if you stop taking it.

Re: Having great results taking l-carnitine.
I recently purchased L-Carnitine and I'm waiting for it to arrive (Wednesday). I'll update when I've taken it and it's in my system.

Carnitine is completely safe and is found in many natural foods. There's a lot of anecdotal evidence that it is effective for weight loss (especially in LC diets), but no studies have confirmed anything.Originally posted by lbiessen View PostBut does it really work?
