  • -.-....I feel terrible right now...

    Hey guys...Tom here.

Today was Day three for me, and I was....doing so well...

And suddenly.....I found myself fighting with myself over something I shouldnt be eating.... I tried so hard...I literally sat there for fifteen minutes arguing with myself in the kitchen.....and I cracked -.-....

I consumed bread and chips, and I feel like a complete JERK right now....

I don't know what to do now....I feel like a complete heel...like I just undid everything I've been trying so hard to do...x_x

Any help would be....so gravely appreciated.....

Tom~ (Almost with tears in his eyes ;p )

Re: -.-....I feel terrible right now...

Just get back on track and finish your 14-day Induction. without letting one bad meal transform into a whole day of bad meals.

Your results at the end of the 14-days will be skewed, so you won't be able to use the charts on page 158 to estimate your degree of metabolic resistance. But other than that, you'll keep losing and whatever damage the cheat has done, can be undone.

Can you point to what caused the cheat? This is something useful to know, so that you can avoid this from happening in the future.

I think I cheated because I don't have a whole lot of money to spend on seperate foods for myself; yet those i'm living with that DO supply food for the house, get only chips, bread, cookies, cakes...stuff like that, and I have absolutely no options...the last few days, all I've been eating is roast beef, cheese, tunafish and eggs....thats it ...thats all thats available to me. ((I really need to find employment again >.>)

      So; in the end, I didnt have enough of variety, nor enough of what I DID have at my disposal...so I ended up hungry and >.>; kinda upset...and this just made me feel worse ><;

I see... Get some veggies in there, even it's the frozen or canned kind (cheaper). And with the foods you have available, make new recipes to diversify your menu.

Use the eggs and cheese to make a quiche; you can add veggies and/or meat in it.

Or get some cream cheese (quite cheap and goes a long way) and make Atkins Revolution Rolls. You can also use mayo instead of cream cheese.

Make your own crisps from cheese. Shred it, put some on a sheet of parchment paper and spread it in thin circle, and then microwave it for a few seconds until it gets crispy (it will get crispier as it cools).

For something "bready", make a mock danish.

Tuna doesn't have to be eaten in tuna salad or plain. You can make fish cakes instead. Go to not2late's profile page, click on the link to her blog and check her post from Jan 2009.

You can also add tuna in a quiche or in a frittata.

The recipes for mock danish and Atkins Revolution Rolls are in the "Induction Recipe Basics" thread, which is a sticky on top of the "Atkins Diet 14-day Induction" forum.

Oh, and you might be able to negotiate the food that is bought. For example, they could buy more foods of the kind you can eat, while you take on some of their jobs in the house, like vacuuming, washing dishes, cleaning the bathroom, going shopping, etc.

You could also offer to cook for them and make something all of you enjoy, like cauliflower pizza or chicken wings or cream cheese pancakes.

From the foods you listed (cake, cookies, bread, crisps) it looks like they are folks who don't have their meal at the table and just eat on the run, grabbing whatever junk it's available. Suggest them to substitute these foods (or at least part of them) with snacks you can eat too. Yes, you'll have to cook more to make sure there's always something available for everyone, but think of the weight loss and improved health you'll see. I'd say it's worth it!

Some ideas for easy-to-grab snacks are deviled eggs, kabobs, cheese crackers, stuffed mushrooms, muffins, quiches, mushroom pizzas. I imagine you can also make pizza from the batter you use for the Revolution Rolls, but I never tried that so I'm not sure it really works.

Hi Tom - Georgiana hit all the nails on the head. I have nothing more substantive to add.

I fell off the wagon many times during induction before I got it right. So, don't worry about it; dust the flour off your chin and start today as if it's a new day. Seriously, that one cheat is not going to derail you too much. (Don't worry about the number you see on the scale today - it's mostly water weigth from the carbs.)

Tom please don't give up. You can make this work. Browse thru Linda's Low Carb Menus and Recipes. There are quite a few that are inexpensive and quite filling. I will pray all works out for you.

Re: -.-....I feel terrible right now...

i was poor 6 years ago when i first tried the Atkins diet

all i could afford was spaghetti & tomato pasta sauce and a few eggs the eggs and tomato pasta sauce were decent health wise

but because of all that spaghetti i jumped up too 330 pounds the highest of my life

but really if i had just ate 1/5 the food and made it eggs and a vegetable i would have been far better off

if i knew what i knew today back then i would have stuck to the Atkins diet no matter what instead of going off it thinking i was too poor

i also lived near a forest so i got berries , walnuts and lettuce from there and when i wanted to take all the walnuts my dad said to leave some walnuts behind for the squirls so they had some food for the winter xD

berries are Rung 4 food and walnuts Rung 3

there was induction food in the forest too but back then i did not know how truly amazing this diet was that even if you ate 1/5 the food you still would be in far better off shape than if you were eating what i was eating back then spaghetti

another thing to note back then i had horrible gut illnesses so i could bearly absorb the food that i ate and i was dieing

but later on i got more money and that got me into doing the diet and with in 6 months my gut illnesses were healed and that changed my life

and by then i never got hungry cause this diet is so healthy and filling

so anyways the point is even if you cant afford much food its better to eat healthy Atkins food even if its 1/5 the amount rather than poisonous blood sugar spikeing junk food

blood sugar spikes are toxic to the body and it takes alot of effort for your body to produce that much insulin to fix it

anyway eggs are cheap and they are one of the perfect foods 61% fat

and dont waste money on lettuce not enough vitamins and stuff in it get something like broccoli instead

then if you can afford a little meat that be great you only need a little and dont eat it all at one meal spread it through out the day so its 100% absorbed

if you got more money left over then butter and vitamin E pills would be nice too and if you got even more money left over you could get some Feta cheese it taste really good mixed with Broccoli and eggs

Georgiana has nice food ideas too

You're kinda stuck between a rock and a hard place huh? I think a talk with your living mates is in order... I like the idea of doing things for them for salad... If you make it sound pathetic enough, (oliver Twistish) they might even toss in some celery...

You can always hold their cookies hostage too...

I fell off the wagon during induction, too. I ate about 8 slices of watermelon. I think I identified my craving trigger food

For supper that night, I ate two scrambled eggs and 2 sausages. I used a ketostix the next morning and I was still in ketosis. Try not to beat yourself up about it, but learn from this experience. I learned that I can't be trusted around fruit. And I learned not to sit next to a platter of watermelon.

Hey Tom..I don't have much to add to the others but wanted to just give you some encouragement. It sounds like you care about doing this and doing it right. You can do it!

If it makes you feel any better, I stumbled last night and ate cake (and a lot of frosting as I was cutting the dang cake up and freezing it). Its all in the freezer now and I don't want it anymore. I feel awful today..which is a lesson to me on what sugar will do to me I guess.

Just a thought..the stores I go to will mark down produce so maybe look for some of that. I got $3 bags of salad for less than a dollar least week.

Good luck and let us know how you make out. Jane

My son does Atkins with college roomies and they don't have a lot of bucks either. Tuna, eggs, and hotdogs are their staples (Hot dogs are not a great choice because of the fillers and nitrates but they are cheap) along with salads and canned veggies. Its not easy to eat on a tight budget but can be done. Don't let the guilt get to you. Just start back in at it.
