  • Low energy levels

    Hi all

I was on the Atkins Diet for three weeks; always felt rather low on energy, but not seriously so; I lost a stone and a half.

Then about three days ago my energy levels dropped through the floor; things were so bad that it was affecting my work; so I had to increase my energy levels by eating a bowl of Alpen, Honey and Milk. After about four hours the levels rose so that I could function normally.

That was three days ago.I am wondering what I should do now. I was sticking to the plan, eating a few salad items each day: tomatoes, celery, onions, lettuce; I was taking vitamin supplements to counter any lack of those in the restricted diet. The Ketosticks were showing moderate levels of ketosis. I was, however, taking three, or four, cups of REAL black coffee a day.

Does anyone have any advice. I have read some of the previous posts about lack of energy but none of them seem to match my circumstances.

    Kind Regards,

    Re: Low energy levels

Hi there and welcome. Many congratulations on your stone and a half loss. That's wonderful!

Re your lack of energy, you could always post a menu or two in the Review your Menu forum (with quantities preferably) but it sounds to me as though you need a few more carbs. You don't say how many you were eating. Try raising the amount, but not with Alpen honey and milk. These are not induction friendly. Eat more veggies instead. Try to eat a portion of veggies from the "other veggies" list, rather than just salad veggies.

Decaf would be better than real coffee imho.

The other thing that might be a good idea is if you begin to climb the OWL rungs... You say you are three weeks into the plan, so you're all set to climb the ladder. Don't be afraid of OWL... you still get to lose, and many lose even faster on the early rungs.

Keep us posted. I'm sure you'll get your energy back eating foods that are Atkins legal for your phase of the programme. Hang in there!

        Re: Low energy levels

Since you have not yet posted a menu, I would like to suggest that maybe what you need is more fat in your diet. That usually is the culprit when people do not have energy. Your diet should consist of 65% fats while on induction. Give it a try or post a menu so we can see what is really going on.

Agreed with the others - maybe you can post a detailed menu and exact supplements?

I know that last go around, I followed the plan to a T EXCEPT for supplements - all I was taking was a multi-vitamin. I was so weak all the time. This time, everything is the same, but now I'm taking a potent multi, b-complex, EFA, potassium & calcium+mag. I have never felt better. I couldn't stay on the plan without them.

            Re: Low energy levels

some times people take 3 weeks to get over induction flu but most are with in 14 days

just remember you must eat around 65% fat 30% protein 5% carbs to get the energy boost

and drink atleast 64 ounces of water a day

            and dont eat aspartame

eggs are good they are 61% fat try eating atleast 3 a day for extra energy
