I'm done with Atkins... went through induction, went through the other steps... lost 20 lbs and without veering from the diet at all, gained it all back. I'm right back where I started without having enjoyed one carb.

Re: Gained everything back!
I'm sorry you feel let down by Atkins. Can you tell us what you did and a example of your menu then one of the more experienced board members will help you and give you some great advice. You say you went through all the steps does that mean you went through all the rungs of owl? Perhaps you moved too fast.

Re: Gained everything back!
I am sorry to hear about your frustration. Was there anything else going on in your life or with your health? If you want to post more details..your menu, excersize, meds you might be on, etc..we might be able to help you pinpoint what might have gone wrong.
Take care, Jane

Re: Gained everything back!
I don't understand how you could gain 20 pounds on the same plan you lost 20 pounds on. Really the only way that could happen would be if in the later 'rungs' which I assume you mean by steps, you went over your CCLL and that is why you gained.
The whole basic thing is, on Atkins everyone starts less than 20 carbs, and pretty much everyone loses at that level. As carbs are added back in, at some point each person stops losing. The point where you stop losing or even gain THAT is your CCLL. It become your cutoff point over which you really can't stray or you will regain. It can be as high as 90 or more for heavy exercisers with fast metabolisms, or as low as 25 for very mature persons who aren't terribly active. If you properly followed the rungs but added more carbs than your particular body can handle, gaining was inevitable.
I am losing very very slowly at this point, and think I have probably already reached my CCLL and it ain't all that high, so I am not even thinking of adding in starchy veggies or grains. Maybe I'll never hardly eat those foods, because I don't ever want to have to struggle this mightlily with my body again. I know if I DID go over my CCLL, my cells are just waiting to start converting that glucose to stored fat and there I would go...down the slippery slope.
I feel for your frustration, I really do.

Re: Gained everything back!
What was your CCML? You found that when you went through Pre-Maintenance Phase. If you exceed your CCML, then you will gain weight. If you started eating "normal" (normal being your pre-Atkins diet), then you probably will regain the weight.~Megs~

Barbee, I looked at your other posts. Did you try following the advice given in your thread here: http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.c...ery-wrong.html ?~Megs~

Re: Gained everything back!
She never reached maintenance, wouldn't her CCLL, not CCLM, be the number she needs for now?Originally posted by not2late View PostWhat was your CCML? I also checked older posts and wonder if the sweeteners aren't the problem, doing the old 'turning on the fat storage' switch purely because of the 'taste of sweet' that we know does occur with some persons. If ones metabolism is challenged anyway, and their body responds to sweet tastes with the 'cephalic response' then sweeteners could be a real problem.

Re: Gained everything back!
Barbee you posted in review my menu awhile ago. You said you were desperate but not willing to change your menu because as I understand it youhad always eaten like this and once it had worked. I think it is important to think that even if something is allowed it does not necessary mean that YOU can eat it. And even if something worked at one time the body changes all the time and it may not work again.
Good luck with what you do. You have tried hard. I hope you find something that you can live with.

Re: Gained everything back!
Mom, when I read her post she wrote"I'm done with Atkins... went through induction, went through the other steps" So I presumed she went through OWL, PreMaintenance and made it to Maintenance, but gained it all back during Maintenance.
When I looked at her past posts, I realized that she was on a faux-OWL phase where she was eating 1 cup of cottage cheese (which runs anywhere from 6 to 12 net carbs depending on the brand) in addition to her Induction menu. That's why I posted if she took any of the advice given to her in that other thread.
But if anyone runs into the problem of gaining weight, this is what needs to be done.
1. Review your menues.
Make sure you really are eating appropriate foods.
Check to see if the weight loss problem began with the introduction of a new food.
2. Double check the ingredients to any food you eat.
3. Make sure you are properly measuring the foods. After a while, one can become comfortable estimating what a tablespoon of mayo or a 1/4 cup of X looks like. So it's always good to check your measuring skills from time to time.
4. Take the Blood Sugar Symptom test in the book.
5. See your doctor. Explain that you have been losing weight on your diet, and now you're starting to gain it. That weight gain may be the sign of something else happening and your doctor can do tests to see if it is.~Megs~
