I hate to start. I hate getting up early, I have to force myself to put the clothes on, and I can think of a thousand excuses not to go, but when I do I feel so good about myself when I finish. I de-stress, I feel physically spent (temporarily) but most importantly, I feel like I really accomplished something towards my health and my weight loss.
I have exercised pretty steadily for the past five years. I have done weight lifting, pilates, walking, elliptical, swimming water aerobics, zumba, and hiking. (I get bored doing the same things all the time and so does my body) I love how my body looks when I am consistently working with weights. I love the tired feeling that comes from hiking or elliptical or even walking. I love the way I feel sleeker, stand taller, and connect to my core from pilates
BUT IT IS STILL HARD TO GET MYSELF STARTED ON SOME DAYS.
The thing is...there is no getting out of this. It is necessary and the longer you do it and the more it becomes a habit, the less you mind it and yes, even look forward to it.
When I started I was a very self conscious blob. I only weighed 20 pounds more than I do now but it looked more like 45 pounds more. I started slow and small. I built up and sped up and worked hard at it. Now, my weight isn't that different, but my body looks like a different person. I even walk differently. I used to try to slide unseen into the gym. Now I walk in with confidence because I know I beling there and it shows. I was talking with friends not long ago and we were discussing people's walks and was shocked to hear that they think I walk and move like an athlete now--it was a LOL moment for me because never would have heard that 5 years ago.
On top of it all, my blood pressure is 100 over 65. My cholesterol is 149. HDL is high and LDL is low (in the optimum range) and my triglycerides are 40! This after 5 years of low carbing. I really feel the biggest factor in the cholesterol numbers is the exercise.
OK I will come down off my soap box, but if this inspires on person to start walking around the block or give them the confidence to walk through those gym doors, well, that's what this was about.
