  • sweating and very hot at night

Since starting this low-carb diet, I've been very hot at night. I sleep nude, with nothing on but a sheet and my husband has PJ's and a blanket. And I'm still hot. I've also been sweaty and hot during the day, but it's much more noticeable to me at night.

Has anyone else noticed something like this? Is this normal? At first I thought it was just the weather, but I've been keeping the AC on in the house. It's not hot flashes or anything like that.

    Hey

I had exactly the same problem and posted about it quite recently. I was going to bed and waking up in the middle of the night and my night clothes were soaked through as well as the covers, i'd have to get up and change and when i woke up i'd be soaked again. It's horrible so i feel for you!

I went to the doctors and all the blood tests came back fine..i had an allergy test and it turns out i am allergic to eggs!!! The day i stopped eating eggs the night sweats stopped.

Now i'm not saying this might be your problem and i would suggest going to the docs to get checked. Perhaps cut out eggs and see what happens as well as going to get checked out xx

Could it be that by better eating you've upped your metabolism? And therefor your body temps go up?

I am definitely less cold blooded on Atkins. I think it is the increased fat in the diet that helps, but I am now at the age where I get hot flashes anyway.

I have been on Atkins on and off since September and never had the night sweats until quite recently and it was allergy related.

Get to the docs just to make sure all is

My solution was to drink 2 huge glasses of water, and be well hydrated before hitting the sack. Yes, I have to epic P once in the middle of the night because of it, but my sweating issues vanished.
            What I do:
Elliptical gym machine 1 hr Tue-Sun
At 320, switch to cycling on my Trek 500
            2 filtered containers water/day
            Daily salads/veggies

            Goals:

Stop needing High Blood Pressure meds - DONE!
            Workout in a XXXL shirt
            - DONE!
            Workout in a XXL shirt
            Workout in a XL shirt
            270 on the scales

Re: sweating and very hot at night

Thanks for the feedback. I really don't think it's an allergy, but I will ask my doctor about it. I feel generally very well and healthy. Chronic problems that I've had for years have actually cleared up from this style of eating. The only two problems I have are that I sometimes feel overheated, especially at night, and when I eat too much fat in one meal I get loose stools (if that's TMI, I appologize), but that seems to be resolving. I hope it's as Amylynn suggested and that it's that my metabolism has changed. I found this article from a few years ago, and there is some support for her hypothesis: Biology News: Low-carb diets get thermodynamic defence and here's another one: The Menopause Diet - Eating Low Carb Burns More Calories

Yep, I had the same thing happen to me. I spent the winter in misery. Huddled under my Mom's quilt, wearing sweats, hunting socks, sitting in front of the space heater. But, after starting this way of eating I suddenly started to get warm! I guess my metabolism finally got revved up and was actually doing what it was supposed to.

Okay, on a weird note, here's my 2 cents! I am extremely warm during the night also. No need for blankies unless I'm not wearing much! However, I have really noticed I rarely need to keep the A/C as high as I did last year. Maybe because it's not hot as Hades yet but I'm comfy at a much higher temp than I was last year. I wonder if it's because I'm smaller. I never believed fat was an insulator until recently!
