  • Healthy Dish Recipe

    Here is and easy and healthy dish you can do on your own. It's called Asian Chicken and Cabbage.

    Ingredients

    * 2 tablespoons hoisin sauce
    * 1 clove garlic, crushed
    * 1 teaspoon fresh grated ginger
    * 4 skinless and boneless chicken breast halves
    * Nonfat cooking spray
    * 1 teaspoon vegetable oil
    * 1/2 cup onion, chopped
    * 2 cups shredded green cabbage
    * 2 cups shredded red cabbage
    * 1 teaspoon sesame oil
    * 1/2 teaspoon salt
    * 1/2 teaspoon ground pepper


    Instructions

    1. Preheat broiler. In a small bowl, use a fork to whisk together hoisin sauce, garlic and ginger.
    2. Brush both sides of chicken with hoisin mixture. Spray broiler pan with cooking spray then place chicken on broiler pan and broil for 6 minutes on each side or until done and no longer pink in the middle.
    3. Heat vegetable oil in a skillet over medium-high heat. Sauté onion for 2 minutes then add red and green cabbage and saute for 2 minutes or until cabbage starts to wilt.
    4. Place cabbage in a medium bowl and add sesame oil, salt and pepper then toss to coat.
    5. Serve chicken with a helping of cabbage on top.

    Doesn't hoisin sauce have sugar in it? Here is what I found...

    Hoisin sauce recipe includes a combination of any type of soy sauce, peanut sauce, honey, molasses, white vinegar, sesame oil, and hot pepper sauce. There are many variations in recipes for hoisin sauce, but all contain the same basic ingredients. Hoisin sauce can be made into a creamy version, or it can be made to be thick. The consistency depends on the particular recipe used. The color of hoisin sauce is dark brown, sometimes with a reddish tint.

    Molasses is out and soy is not allowed in Induction. It is on the Legume rung, I believe.

      Also, speaking from terrible personal experience (and research), ginger is a well-known appetite stimulant. Trust me...I learned the hard way.
