  • Hanging with friends at a bar - drinks?

I went to a party last night, bunch of friends at a bar. Confused as to what to drink, I ended up with a Michelob Ultra and nursed it all night. I know alcohol on Atkins is a no-no from various other threads on the subject, but what can I order that actually looks like a drink and not water?

I searched for "bar" hoping this had been covered before but it's too generic for the engine to find a thread. "drinks at a bar" didn't turn up too much info either.

    thanks!
    What I do:
Elliptical gym machine 1 hr Tue-Sun
At 320, switch to cycling on my Trek 500
    2 filtered containers water/day
    Daily salads/veggies

hmm I don't know of any non-alcoholic drinks at the bar haha that sounds bad, I know.
If I do go out with friends and do drink, I usually get a Captain & diet. I never drink soda or diet soda so 2 or 3 does not really effect my induction. (although I haven't had anything alcoholic this time)
Most non-alcoholic drinks I've seen at the bar are filled with sugary fruit juices and crap so I'm out of ideas. You can always say the water is vodka?

On extended induction? Nothing, but you knew that.

Club soda, on the rocks, with a twist of lime, a little straw, and in a short glass (i.e. not a soda glass, one of the ones you get scotch on the rocks on, for example).

It will look look like you're drinking a drink, but only you will know it's club soda.

By the way, if your question is what *alcoholic* drink you can have, I'll turn the question around and ask why this would be any different than if you were at a buffet? You wouldn't cheat just because everyone else was pigging out, so the alcohol should be no different. (Sorry if that wasn't your question, but I wasn't sure).

I usually opt for a long glass of sparkling water with ice and a slice of lemon or lime.
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?

No, I confirmed in my original post that I cannot have alcohol. You just stand out at a bar if you're sitting there for 4 hours and only drinking water. Granted, that depends on the bar - some you can order whatever you want and nobody cares since you're up and running around or dancing.

Other bars you're sitting kinda formal at a table with people and it's obvious you need some type of drink. I'm just searching for a fake drink in these situations.

As for a buffet, I would pig out like the rest just with different foods.

What about something like O'Dules? I'll be honest though, I've never been much of a drinker, but, I've been keeping Michelob Ultra on hand at home for those random times when I do want something.

Ah, gotcha. Wasn't sure since that line followed this one: "I ended up with a Michelob Ultra."

                  O'Doul's has between 13-18 carbs.

I believe the distilled spirits of straight liquor: vodka, rum, scotch, whiskey, gin are zero carbs. No mixers! Choose a dry wine over sweet. But your body will stop ketosis until all the alcohol is out of your system. I've also read if you are going to drink, it's a good idea to "alternate between alcoholic beverages and non-alcoholic ones."

I use to bartend in a very upscale lounge and I've also bartended in a bowling alley so I have pretty much seen all aspects of the drinking scene. In the 4 bars where I served drinks I had several regulars and non-regulars who would come in and order water with a twist in a Tom Collins Glass -- or Mineral Water in a rocks glass with a pick of olives -- I don't understand why there is a stigma to drink alcohol if you go to a bar.... Several years ago there was a big push in the U.S. for designated drivers....who is that person in your crowd? Step up to the plate and be the designated driver - you may save a life some night. Read about the designated driver program at O'Doul's website Go ahead, it's an O'Doul's!

Maybe it's time for you to move up the rungs so you can get to the alcohol rung and drink legally. I'd rather eat good carbs as opposed to drinking carbs so I can "have a good evening with friends". Try water with a twist next time.

I agree with Ima. I don't drink---my use of alcohol is limited to cooking. So I've always been the designated driver. No one ever threw me out of a bar because I wasn't chugging a keg.

In fact, I always liked being sober----it was easier to spot the losers trying to pick me up.

I would go with a diet soda... and no one has ever asked me why I'm not drinking alcohol... that would be quite rude...
