    Re: Charlie Horses

I get calf cramps regularly first thing in the morning. What a way to wake up.

I have yet to find any real solution, so I'm all ears.

Make sure you take supplements, and drink plenty of water
Atkins mentions these minerals in particular: potassium, magnesium and calcium

        Re: Charlie Horses

I just received my book via the mail and will get the supplements that I need. I have been taking a multivitamin and I have been drinking way over the minimum water allowance.

More than likely I haven't been taking the right kind of vitamin and need to get the other supplements recommended.

        Thanks for the feedback!!

Magnesium is the one to take for leg cramps...

Ditto to the potassium and magnesium.

              Re: Charlie Horses

For the first week I kept forgetting to pick up the supplements and by the time I remembered, the stores were closed. I started to get leg cramps so that was my reminder to get them. After a couple of days they disappeared.

                    Re: Charlie Horses

I do all the above.. including eating spinach.... and I still get cramps in my legs regularly.

Some nights as I go to bed I just "know" that I'm gonna have trouble, so I pop a few Hyland's Leg Cramps* pills before crashing. Sometimes it works... sometimes it don't.

I've suffered with leg cramps all my life (great-grandmother, grandmother, aunts, mother -- all of us have had them)....doctors say magnesium and potassium supplements. I don't have them since I've been on Atkins -- I actually feel better since I've been eating this way.

                        Re: Charlie Horses

I get them while sitting at the computer and at night when I'm trying to sleep. In addition to an avocado or two every week and LC veggies, I use the potassium and calcium/magnesium supplements.

It didn't work all that well until I tried 2 potassium 99 mg 3 times daily and doubled my calcium/magnesium. I've been tracking my intake on Fitday, and I still tend to be low, though.
