  • how do you keep your cheese to 3 to 4 oz.?

Ok... I am trying to lower my carbs and do induction again. It is hard because when you get used to just eating with out measuring and recording on fitday you can just go way overboard.

I KNOW that i am not eating 3-4 oz per day

I eat breakfast cassorole in the morning

    Salad w/ feta

    Cream cheese, ricotta, jello desert

and most of the time I am makings some sort of veggie side or casserole w/ cheese, cream cheese, sour cream, heavy cream.

    UGH!!!!

How do you do it from day to day? Do you count? Measure? Not eat certian dairy? I am trying to keep this as simple as possible.

Argh... Cheese (and all dairy, really) is such a slippery slope for me. I'm going to try to just cut it all out this week. I'm not really a "moderation" kind of gal...

Planning your meals at least a day before will help. Breakfast can be a casserole, lunch will be some meat with veggies... and for dinner ideas check the "What's for Induction Dinner Tonight???" thread in the "14-day Induction" forum.

By the way, ricotta is not allowed during Induction because it is a fresh cheese. And if by "jello" you mean Jell-O and not homemade jelly, then you'll probably want to ditch that as it is sweetened with aspartame, which Dr. Atkins wrote it should be avoided whenever possible as it may stall or slow down weight loss. You can make your own jelly using gelatin and one of the sweeteners allowed on Atkins (check Chapter 11 in DANDR for the list).

I thinking planning how you use cheese in advance is a good idea. I have found that cheese can stall me, so I tend to err on the side of caution and use it sparingly. If it is dinner, and I haven't had much for cheese, I might put it on a hamburger for example. But if I snacked on cheese earlier in the day, I won't.

A couple of the cheese brands I use have bags of individually wrapped cheddar cheese pieces. Each are 1 oz. I find that helpful to track how much I use. I know I use enough heavy cream in my coffee that I don't have much allowance left to use it for other things. So yes, I count and measure.

As for jello, if you can find Hunt's jello cups...they make a sf version that is made with sucralose. Double check it, but that is what I use (though again, I use it sparingly).

I have the same issue. One thing I find is that if I buy a really strong flavor (blue cheese, swiss cheese, etc) I will eat less of it than if I had mozzarella or cheddar.

One thing I've been doing lately is using oil and vinegar on my salads. While I love blue cheese dressing, there are better ways to use that 3-4 ounces of cheese (serious cream cheese user here!)

Cheese and nuts - trouble (and they go together)
With both of them if they start to become a bit excessive I have to every morning make a box with the allotted rations- here are how many almonds you can eat and I place them in a container the rest is out of sight. Cheese is a bit the same sometimes. Make the allotments ready and stick to it. Some cheeses are sold in handy 8 oz blocks and it is easy to divide it up to once ounce pieces. But yes I feel your pain I just bought some jarlsberg. And I love it.

if you can, try to note how much cheese you buy at the store and then apportion that out through the week. Of course if you live with others, some "mice" might come and eat it.
