  • 30 days after: I'm shocked by my results

    Hello Everyone:

I started induction Monday, May 25th. On May 31, I weighed 236 lb, my body fat was 26.6% and my lean body mass was 173.2 lb.

Today, 29 days later, Tuesday, June 16, I weigh 226 lb, my body fat is 18.2% and my lean body mass is 184.8 lb.

I use the Jackson / Pollock 3 caliper method.

Results: I've gained ~11.6 lb of muscles and lost ~21.6 lb of pure fat. I dropped body fat by 8.4%.

The funny thing is that I've been told that I'm not doing induction correctly.

I've finished my personal assessment of the extended induction phase. It works better than any low fat / high carb diet that I've ever been on.
sigpic Me, at 195 lb. September 24, 2009. It's 5:30 a.m. and can't wait to hit the coffee.

Unfortunately using calipers to measure body fat is know to be sometimes inaccurate and in your case it definitely is.
Most of that weight you have lost is mostly water weight although you may have lost some fat and muscle.
Also, it is impossible for any human to put on 11.6 lb of muscle in a month. (Most people lifting weights intensely see those kinds of gains in 3 months).
And also, 21.6 lb of fat in a month is a dream. That can never happen (unless you had lipo). Most people lose 1-2 lb of fat per week where the max being severely obese people who could lose up to 4 lb of fat a week.

Sorry for the rant but its better to know your results for what they actually are rather than results you would get in some fantasy land.

Those numbers are a little hard to achieve in a month.BUT, you are doing great.Keep it up.I am into my 5th month of extended induction and the results are nothing short of spectacular.Consistently losing two lbs a week.I have gone from sloppy fat to obese to overweight to pudgy to lean since jan 1.Look about ideal size now buy still losing.Must be viseral fat as there isn't much left on outside.Caloric intake is around 2500 / day.Muscles are becoming much more defined.I have lost a lot of weight on Atkins before but my body never responded in the way it has now in extended induction.never could lose those last 15 lbs before or love handles.

Sorry Johniboy that you're a hard gainer. I've been lifting wieghts for almost 20 years and took a three year lay-off. Ever hear off muscle memory?

Flabby as I got, my arms still measured 16 inches flexed. Yes, I use skin calipers, but I use many methods for skinfold measurments, not just one. I even have my body fat measured in the gym by physical therapy / sports medicine students just to check.

Second of all, I have and always had a superior ability to gain muscle mass. I stalled once at 285 lb. with a 34 inch waist, back around 12 years ago, and I'm 5"11.5" tall. But I was stacking Deca.

I'm not new at this, so I'm definetly not a beginner. I currenlty eat 6 times a day, sometimes seven and eat arounbd 3,000 calories.

So the about a fantasy land, my little wimpy friend shows your fustration getting gains.

Presently I'm cycling an anti-aromatase that works very well. In the almost 2 months I've been doing this, and my brutal workouts, I'm having now a hard time not losing more than 2 lb. every three days.

So good luck working out, my little rotund friend.

Phil, the number are not skewed. I'm not normal, and never ever been near obese.

              1) LOL I'm not a hard gainer. Frustration came from seeing a post (who I thought was from a noob) going on about results that would otherwise have been impossible

              2) Well that makes sense to gain that much muscle in 4 weeks as its just muscle lost before.

              3) You didn't lose 21.6 lbs of pure body fat in a month. That comes out to roughly 5 lbs of fat a week. The most you can lose without losing muscle is 2-3 lbs a week.

              4) I'm not wimpy. I workout 3 days a week - intense lifting to help maintain my muscle mass while I'm on this diet. And before you go on about hard gainer again, I'm not trying to gain as I'm on a calorie deficit. Calorie deficit = Lose fat, Calorie surplus = muscle gain.

Re: 30 days after: I'm shocked by my results

Hey Johnniboy, sorry for being defensive. I was an hole.

I know were're talking about thermodynamics here (sorry, Gibbs, you busted my n*ts enough during P Chem 1), but my calorie deficiet was too extreme for my metabolism at first. I used, before starting the AD, Maxzine (a diuretic) and I'm extremley active. I sprint up hill, spin like a son-ov-a' and bike ride all on an empty stomach at the crack of dawn. Hey, not all three activites on the same day, I choose one depending on the mood I'm in. When bored, I'll grab my bike and ride to Key Biscayne, Miami from where I live. I live in the Waterway Neighborhood, Miami, just west of Coral Gables. So we are talking maybe 15-20 miles at ~12-13 mph. I take alley ways and go pretty much scenic. I know it seems extreme, because a 20 lb fat loss equates to 21,000 calorie burn weekly.
But that's the numbers I get. I think that my initail measurments were wrong, I was probably lower in body fat% than I recorded. But I have lost a tremendous amount of weight and my muscles are responding favorably.

I got pictures to post of before and after, but I ain't posting them until I reach my goal or die trying to do so LOL. Jeez, I need a suntan (yup, even here in Miami) and probably will shave my body hair. The first time I shaved off my body hair (not totally, mind you! I leave hair in two areas, my head and them other places, cheez, before you think I'm "man"enough to do the Brazilian wax thing or whatever. I think a root canal sans Novacaine would be more pleasurable...but that's another story) it freaked me out. It brought me back to when I was a kid because I saw a hairless man stomach.

My apologies, Johnniboy. Enthusiasm just took hold of my logic there, for a bit.
