  • A stall of sorts... but at least did not gain!

hi.. my son who has autism is doing fine. I have written last couple of weeks. He started at 243 on june 6th and on MOnday .. june 15 he was 235.4. he then stayed on tues and wed and thurs at 236.8 and this am 235.6. ok... BUT.. he came down this am wearing a size 42 shorts instead of the 44's he had. and he has worn them all day.. he says they feel fine. I hope he drops a few more pounds in the next few days.. tomorrow it will be 2 weeks and a 7 lbs loss seems not enough for a kid who is big.. he is 5"6. we limited cheese even more. and his summer camp teachers are monitoring him well with the snack and lunch I send in. thanks.. Lia

The pounds don't matter nearly as much as the fact that he's obviously losing inches. Good for him!!!!

I am as well.. but I run 15 miles a week as well at the gym!!

Do congratulate him from me on those pounds and inches discarded Lia

        He is doing great

BTW how old is he and how much weight are you aiming at him losing?
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
Take a look at the thread from the latest Veggie Challenge to see how others manage it!

hi../ he is 17.. and only 5'6... I am thinking.. if I can just get him below 200 for now.. and then continue... his father's side of the family have the same body types.. in the stomach... and upper chest... he is also on lexapro and geodon.. and I hope this is not stalling him.. geodon has minimal weight gain.. he started in feb.. his weight then was 245.. so... I am trying my best and I am proud of him... Lia

Don't be worried about the fact he is losing a bit slower than you'd hoped. His weight losses are nice and he is happy on the plan so just be content. If you fiddle with too much he may get bored and revolt on you. It is so exciting that he loves the walking. That's terrific! Know that sometimes people stall for a few weeks after Induction, The best thing to do is wait it out and stay on plan. Hopefully it may not happen to him, but forewarned is forearmed and hopefully, since you know, it won't be as frustrating if it happens. Congratulations on your early success.

I agree, don't fuss too much - take the small successes and be proud, of yourself as well as your son! Anti-depressants are known to stall weight loss and/or cause weight gain. Talk to your doctor to see if any of the meds your son is taking falls into this category. There are others that do not cause weight gain, maybe he's a candidate for them. Again, talk with your doctor. Good luck and keep us posted, we are root'n for ya!

Re: A stall of sorts... but at least did not gain!

I'm 5'2" and started near 250 lbs... I lost 9 lbs the first 2 weeks and then had the usual after induction stall for a couple of weeks...

It really doesn't matter how tall you are or how much you weigh when you begin... it's all a matter of metabolism, eating the right things, staying in ketosis and keeping active. It sounds like everything is on track, and thank goodness he is willing to comply!

At your son's age and height he should weigh around 150. It might take over a year to get there... but some where along the way he will start feeling so great and have so much energy that the rest of the trip won't be as hard as it is right now... It's always hardest in the beginning.

Thanks.. everyone... I worry about him.. he is out of breath at certain points of the walk.. not badly.. but hauling that weight is hard. I realize he should be about 150 and it may take a year... the lexapro has a low weight gain history as well as geodon... anything else does not... unless we go to the class of anti convulsants.. which they use to stablize moods as well.. tegretol is noted for helping you lose weight. but.. we are not doing that... thanks.. It sounds like he's doing very well! I wasn't on lexpro, but I was on something similar last year and it made my weight loss extremely slow. I switched to something else, and within a matter of days I had dropped 15 lbs! Not suggesting you switch his meds, just saying that it could be making it a little slower, although nothing to worry about!
