  • Metabolicaly resistant

Well, I'm on my 3rd week. I still have only lost 5 pounds. I have lost some inches because I noticed that my clothes fit a little looser. However, I still don't feel like I am losing what I should. I don't have a problem eating anything. And I am wondering if I should do the FAT FAST. If any of you have had this problem, then I would appreciate any menu ideas that could get me more into the weight loss mode. Thanks in advance.

You can only lose 1.5 to 2 lb of fat weekly. The initial weight loss that seems extreme at first usually is water. Keep your carbs low, eat your veggies, drink plenty of water and remember that weight loss is not linear. I plotted a curve and it tends to be somewhat sigmoid in curvature. Ask the advice of moderators, they are treasures of information. Exercise is a must.

Could you post a few of your menus, including quantities for everything? Or if you did this already paste here the link to that thread?

What are your stats --- height, starting weight, current weight, goal weight?

What problem? I had lost 7 pounds by the time I was in my 3rd week... that's only 2 pounds more than you, and I thought that was great!

As Georgiana mentioned, it would be helpful if you could add some stats to your signature, that will appear each time you post. I would included age, height, start date, start weight, current weight, and goal weight.

Inches lost are super-important... the scale is a very poor gauge of fat loss.

BTW - I HATE the idea of the Fat Fast.

Don't do the fat fast....I really wish it wasn't in the book because as soon as someone doesn't think they are loosing fast enough they think "fat fast"......post your menu's first then let people like Georgiana pick it apart....I'm sure she can find something that will help you.

Make sure you are drinking AT LEAST 64 ounces of pure water daily -- nothing added! Some people drink half their weight in water daily - that's your choice. Exercise is a must - start walking or water exercise if nothing else - dance whatever -- just get up and get moving.

How many inches have you lost? I've lost almost 40 inches and 32 pounds...the inches are more of an accomplishement for me.

Are you on any medications that may be slowing your weight loss?

              Re: Metabolicaly resistant

Lets see, I drink atleast 1-2 gallons of water a day. Just water. FOr breakfast I have a 3 egg omlete w/a little cheese and some salsa. For lunch either a chicken breast, or ground pork w/fire roasted tomato, or a salad/lite on the dressing. For dinner, maybe another chicken beast w/green beans or sliced pork tenderloin. I sometimes have an eggnog shake. I do need to excercise. I am thinking about doing some walking. I guess I am trying to figure out the "lifestyle". Anyway, I haven't had any bread, sweets, cokes, potatoes, or anything like that. I have gotten used to eating without all that stuff. So I don't have a problem adjusting my menu.
I think I got all the age and weight stuff in the right place. Thanks ya'll

Wow your fast......lol. usually just 1 chicken breast, 1/2 pound of the ground pork, I'm not sure about the fire roasted tomatos. I mix the pork and the tomatoes in a larger dish then I break it down into 2 different cups. 1 now and the other later. I haven't measured the salad. I feel satisfied after I eat it, not overly stuffed like I would have done in the past. The pork tenderloin about 5 slices of it. I have used mayo, mustard, I gave up the majority of ketchup. That was hard because I am a ketchaholic. I think that sums it up about now.

                    Re: Metabolicaly resistant

Are you using FitDay to track what you're eating? You should aim for 65% fat, 5% carbs and 30% protein. Your menu looks a little too high in protein to me, although it's hard to say since there are many things missing.

                    -----------------------------------------------------------

                    Breakfast

                    3 eggs
                    cooked with ___ tbsp butter/oil
                    ___ oz cheese
                    ___ tbsp salsa

                    Lunch
                    1 chicken breast (about ___ oz) skin/skinless
                    salad with ___, ___, ____, ....
___ tbsp of ___ [insert name] dressing

                    Dinner
                    1 chicken breast (about ___ oz) skin/skinless
___ cups green beans cooked with/without fat

                    -----------------------------------------------------------

How much did you lose during your first two weeks? Was it the same 5 lbs or less?

Are you taking any nutritional supplements?

Did you follow any diet right before starting Atkins?

                      Re: Metabolicaly resistant

Avoid the fat fast like the plague. Unless you are severely metabolically resistant (which you don't seem to be), then it can be dangerous. Also, most people who do it end up re-gaining all the weight back and more as soon as they stop it.

Start some exercise (walking is fine for a start), drink masses of cold water (it takes a surprising amount of energy for your body to heat the cold water to body temperature, and this makes a difference), stick to the plan to the letter. You'll be fine.

Last tip... use a tape measure rather than the scales. You'll get a much truer picture of your success.

                      Happy Atkineering!

Cut out all the ketchup. Every single drop. It is way to sugary to be compatible with the Atkins diet.
Drink MORE water (are you drinking other stuff?)
Looks like you could eat more fat - you are choosing lean meat like chicken and tenderloin so add your fats.

I see what you mean about the amounts. I haven't tracked it like that. I will start using fitday. I was told that before and haven't done it yet. I am not using any supplements as of yet. I am not on any meds. And no I wasn't on any other diet before Atkins. I have tried to keep my fridge filled with fresh meats and salad stuff. I got myself away from the junk I used to eat. But I haven't been measuring anything.....just guesstamating. OK....I know this is asking alot, can you give me a realistic meal plan to follow for a day? I'm from Texas, so beef, chicken, and pork is no problem, eggs no problem, I don't eat alot of fish. And what are we talking about when you say "need to eat more fats"? I am not drinking anything eslse but water, occassional unsweet tea for dinner, other than that, thats it. This is the same 5 pounds that I have originally lost. Its like I got stuck right out of the gate, however, I think by what I am reading both in the forum and in this thread, I need to fine tune what I am eating. Then I am sure I will see better results. Thanks again. Any simple redneck Atkins meal ideas are much appreciated. I am also going to look in the recipe thread.

Check out the 'review my menu' section for meal plan ideas.

Any exercise counts - it doesn't have to be cardio (although in my opinion, cardio makes a more immediate difference on the scales). Walking is a great start, swimming is nice if you aren't a big fan of getting really sweaty (and I bet it's HOT in Texas right now). Weightlifting builds muscle - muscle burns calories...
I also enjoy Yoga & Pilates just to mix it up a bit

I recently found sugar-free ketchup - it still has fairly high carbs, but should be OK in moderation. Linda also has a recipe for ketchup on her site - if you HAVE to have it - at least make it sugar-free

                              Good luck!
