  • Update on me...

    Hi everyone,

I was just in to see the endocrinologist, I am not doing well. My endocrinologist wants me to try the Insulin Resistance Diet for just one month and then go back to see him. He wants to see if linking proteins with carbs will help insulin levels to lower and ease my never ending hunger.

I gave it a try today, I am extremely happy to report that I've been happy and saited today. I've been able to stay full for 3 hours in between meals, a HUGE improvement for me! Being on Atkins, sadly, wasn't doing that for me at this point. So, I am going to try my doctors way for a month, see where I stand and maybe at some point I'll try back to this way. I have tried Atkins as I was supposed to for over a week with no cheating! I've been very hungry, unhappy and depressed. My doctor explained a lot of things to me about insulin resistance that I never knew, even my doctor before him didn't help me this much! I feel this is the right choice for me at this point in time, and the way I am feeling today really helps. I might not lose a ton of weight quickly, but I will hopefully gain control of my insulin!

Thanks everyone for all the support and kind words, your all great and I wish you all tons of success and may you all find your dreams!

    Hi Keria

I am glad you are getting some helpful advice and support from your endo

I am not sure what the Insulin Resistance Diet is like, but hope it continues to help you.
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
Take a look at the thread from the latest Veggie Challenge to see how others manage it!

I'm glad you found something that works for you and something you feel you can stick with.

So what are you eating on the Insulin Resistance Diet?

Keria, I truly believe that no one WOE is right for everyone. Atkins is definitely right for me, but if you are feeling better and more sated with your doctor's recommendations then it sounds like you have found something that works for you. And who knows? Maybe once your Insulin stabilizes and your body gets re-set you may come back here--or you may not need to do so. Either way I am thrilled you have founds some relief. One of the things I liked about this WOE is that I don't get hungry. If Atkins wasn't giving you that advantages then I can see why it would be frustrating. Best of luck and do pop in and say HI.

Wishing you the best of luck.... and if I looked it up correctly the IRD is similar to Atkins but moving up the rungs... it seems that whole grains still can't be ate to often and in small amounts, and mostly it is fruit that is being added as the carb and you also eat the nuts (great for stabilizing blood sugar),

            Here is a sample menu:

Just curious did you loose any weight on Atkins?

For me my appetite has decreased now on day 5 ... so that is a plus, but the first days I felt like a pig.. oink oink

I do hope this works for you b/c being overweight has so many negative factors in our life and not only health related... emotional, psychological, and spiritual...

Best of luck and please do check back in.

It is okay if it takes me a little longer to get there, besides this is where I'm going to stay forever and that is a really long time!!!

                Re: Update on me...

Hello fellow IR'r!!! My doctor suggested either the IR diet or the atkins' diet when I was diagnosed with IR. I bought the book - really like what it has to say, but for myself I was SO sick and tired of dealing with numbers (ex-weight watcher/counted points) that linking 30 g carbs to 15 g protein for every meal was too mathematical for me - which is funny cuz normally I LOVE numbers!!!

but anyways - if it works for you that is FABULOUS!!! again, I loved a lot of what the book had to say and it is similar to atkins (just more whole grains & fruit).

congrats on finding what works for you!

btw - are you on metformin at all for your IR? The doc put me on that when she diagnosed me...I've been on it for almost 2 years now. (October 07). I just wish I'd have really listed and gone on atkins LAST year instead of waiting til this year. oh well - i'm here now and I'm staying!
