  • Gyros!!!

Does anyone have any nutritional information on Gyro meat and how many carbs it contains??

I googled it, and so far i've found it contains 1 carb PER OUNCE!!! most greek restaurants give you like a pound of meat..that's 16 oz.. so essentially, you could eat like 16 carbs from just gyro meat!!!

I thought gyro meat was "safe" because all it is suppose to be is lamb, beef, and spices for flavor. well that "flavor" must have sugar!!

I was so frustrated this morning when I went to enter last night's dinner into fityday.com and had to enter gyro.

so i am drinking TONS OF WATER and will be walking extra long with my doggy tonight when i get home from work!! (it really sucks too, because the heat index is at 100 degrees today and super humid outside.. this is in Wisconsin!!!)

Let me know if ya guys find anything!! THANK YOU!!!

yeppers, been there done that The woman at famous george's gyro assured me the label on the box of the meat that is on that huge spit thing says ZERO. Yeah uh huh. NOT. I was shocked to, then i looked at the sliced meat you can buy at GFS, has five carbs in four slices. Won't be eating that anytime soon again either.

hi.. I am Greek.. so I love gyro... and souvlaki... why don't you have a souvlaki.. instead... pork or lamb on the stick... grilled... no pita... the meat in the gyro cone or strips is processed.. it must have fillers... my parents owned a gyro shop for years.. Lia

Linda has a greek or gyro burger recipe on her site. I was going to try that to see if it was a good substitute.

just remember...it may be something that angers you - because you LOVE how it tastes...but what's it worth? the fabulous feeling knowing that you're doing good for your body by not eating it - or the regret of saying "ah screw it?"...

believe me, I understand frustration of finding out something you like to eat, you can't/shouldn't anymore - but just remember that in the end it's worth it!!!

thanks keriann! that's the thing with atkins.. it sucks when i find out i can't have 1 certain thing.. but honestly, on atkins i don't feel deprived like at all. i can actually have really good self control because i feel satisfied on so many other levels. I also love the way i feel and look, and am super excited to see what the future will bring. I never lose site of my goal in my head.
I was on atkins a long time ago and it worked out great! life got a little hectic, and unfortunately i lost my way off atkins.. BIG MISTAKE!! so now i'm back on track and super happy about it!!
so all i can say is.. bummer..can't have gyro.. guess i'll just have to go eat a steak or something..darn! lol
