  • What is your favourite form of exercise and why??

    Just a chance to promote what you think is a great form of exercise really - sometimes people aren't aware of classes and sports that they'd love and therefore stick to!

    I grew up doing a fair amount of gymnastics and though I was never more than club level at it, I really suit exercise/sport/classes that involve acrobatics or flexibilty in some way.

    Sports I have loved over the past few years have included:

    Hulaerobics (I have my own hoop now - woohoo!)

    Parkour - an indoor free-running class based around school gym equipment!! excellent class (where I was the oldest by a good 10 years, but hey-ho!). Kind of a mix of circuit training, acrobatics and generally jumping on and off things in a fluid and [sometimes] graceful manner

    Adult gymnastics - am lucky enough to have a fully fitted gymnastics hall nearby that has sprung floors, trampolines and foam pits to play about with. Great for cardio, flexibility and strength.

    Belly-dancing (enough said)

    Pilates/Yoga - especially ashtanga yoga, had a great teacher and complimented a lot of the other classes that tightened up my muscles by lengthening and stretching and strengthening core muscles.

    AND MY CURRENT ABSOLUTE FAVOURITE THING IN THE WORLD.....

    POLE-DANCING FOR FITNESS!

    I cannot recommend this highly enough! (Don't worry - it's a fitness class, no nudity or anything like that!!)
    It's like a combination of dance and gymnastics on a pole, and as well as really increasing my physical strength (without adding bulk, I might add!), and toning legs, but wearing heels throughout, it has boosted my confidence 100%. I never even owned a pair of shorts before, and now have about 20 pairs!

    I started when I turned 30 back in February and now go to, on average, 5 hours of classes a week and can even hold myself upside-down my my thighs!! Who knew??

    I think the thing with exercise is to find something you love and can stay enthusiastic about.

    What does everyone else love??

    (and obviously I am a snowboard instructor so do that as well!)

      I love dancing to any music as its not boring and I can do any moves I want and in the end im sweating madly and tired.You can't tell time pass when its fun any other exercise I look at the clock and think "come on I can't do more".

          Wow, pole dancing fitness sounds fun. I am trying pole dancing on a hen night next month - not sure whether is fitness type class, or more cringey nudity variety...we'll see.

          For me I LOVE kickboxing. I'm so not a toughie but I had had enough of the gym so this gives me a structure to work on - gradings and blet are great motivation and you need to be fit in a cardio way, strong and very flexible. A great all rounder, though high up the belts it can get harder to fit it all in

              I love Bodypump! I never thought I would enjoy a weight-lifting class but it is fantastic pushing yourself to your limits and you feel great afterwards - I even go up to the gym after the class now for some cardio! How times have changed! x

                I still hate exercising, but love the way I feel afterwards. I love looking at parts of me in the mirror now that they're getting more muscular.

                  I like free weights because I can see myself getting stronger by the weights I can handle from week to week and they have done more to shape my body than anything else I do. I also love hiking but right now I am living in places with NO HILLS to hike.

                      I like exercising most days.
                      For cardio I like running because it is easy (just put on shoes and go outside) and cheap and pleasurable. I do not run super long rungs or fast but I like it.
                      My second favourite is yoga. Just cannot get enough of that stuff. It strengthens and relaxes you at the same time.

                          i like just about every type of gym exercise

                          awhile back with Atkins + 15 hours of cardio a week i lost 100 pounds of fat and that was it

                          then i started going to the gym and must have lost 40 more pounds of fat and gained 40 pounds of muscle so now i total 140 pounds of fat loss

                          and somewhat recently iv read things that light cardio does not do much at all for fat loss so its really in working your muscles hard with full body muscle work outs + Atkins diet is what works best

                          cardio is helpful too but for only 7-10 mins on as high resistance as you can go
