  • Are all fats created equal on the atkins diet?

    Hello Everyone, hope all is well...

    Are all fats created equal on the Atkins Diet?

    Is it better to stick closer to the mono & poly unsat fats for better blood lipids? Is it better to eat fish & chicken rather than bacon, pork, beef or cheeses with alot of saturated fat etc? Do cholestrol levels increase during the weight loss phase, due to my body burning fat for fuel? Fat being mostly made up of Triglys will I have a temporary increase in Triglys during the weight loss phase & then lower as I lose more fat off my body? Please let me know your thoughts on this? I want to make sure I have the best impact possible on my Blood Lipids while I am losing the weight... Let me know your thoughts or if you have any info please let me know... thanks

    I have lost 12 pounds in the first 10 days on Atkins, very excited...
    My Blood Lipids before starting Atkins are the following

    Total = 213
    Tri = 231
    LDL = 139
    HDL = 31
    VLDL = 46

    Here's something from the folks at Weston A. Price: The Importance of Saturated Fats for Biological Functions

    Also from Mary Enig, PhD's book Know Your FAts, lard (pork fat) is 40% saturated and 50% monounsaturated. So by definition, lard is an unsaturated fat.
