  • Need Serious Help!! :-( (Atkins Fan)

    Hi Everyone

I hope all of you are enjoying your summers and having a great time with friends and family. I am getting married in october. I don't have big weight loss goals as many people on this board have. I am going through serious frustrations regarding my recent weight gain. I was 107 lbs couple of months ago until i started low carb not induction exactly. It has def helped me keep my blood sugar stable. I feel much better and satisfied.

My only problem is that I cannot loose those 5 lbs back. I am not doing induction, but I follow a very low carb meal plan. No breads, pasta or even fruits except berries and nuts.

Here is my meal menu for a typical work day

    Breakfast:
    ~ Coffee with full cream
    ~Source yogurt (5gms carbs)
    ~handful of walnuts/almonds
~2-3 strawberries & half cup blueberries
    ~Soy hotdog

    Snack:
    ~Walnuts
    ~ Green Tea

    Lunch:
    ~fish/chicken with mayo
~large green salad with olive oil&vinegar
    ~ Coffee with full cream

    Snack b4 my workout:

    ~Atkins advantage bar

    Dinner

    ~ small salad
    ~chicken or fish

Please suggest me something asap. I asked for help on facebook atkins. But I got no help. This is my last try or else i would be compelled to go back to my previous low calorie, low fat diet(that has left me shaky 24/7).

I drink lots of water too!!

Try cutting out the Atkins bar (they stall some people's losses) and caffeine. You could also cut out the fruit & nuts - unless you have climbed the rungs (adding foods back one at a time), you won't know what the problem is. You may be eating too many carbs/day to lose, or it could be a specific food. If you cut them all out & start losing, you could add them back one at a time & see if you continue losing. If you stop losing again, you've either reached your CCLL (max carbs you can eat & still lose) or a certain food prevents you from losing weight (you may be able to add it back in maintenance).

Are you doing Atkins, Deepanjali? If you are, I assume you are in OWL Rung 4, right? Or Pre-Maintenance, since you only have 5 lbs to lose? Did you introduce foods one by one, to see which one affects your weight loss? BTW, Atkins bars are known stallers and many people have problems with them.

        Are you exercising?

In any case, the last 5 lbs come off quite difficult for everyone even if everything is done right.

It is hard for us to advice you as we follow a particular plan - Atkins. It has rules that are very particular and you are not really eating according to them.

Personally I think you are not losing because you are already healthy and thin. Good job doing that.

Hi Thanks everyone for your replies

Yes I would not say that I am on induction since I have only 5lbs to loose. I exercise intensely 3-4 days a week. I will stop atkins bars and also fruits and nuts. but wat can i eat for my breakfast other than bars or nuts? since I only have 15 mins to prepare breakfast.
would it be a good idea to go back to induction? If yes then can someone give me a more realistic mean easy to follow. please suggest!!!

So did you do Induction? And did you then move to OWL?

Re: Need Serious Help!! :-( (Atkins Fan)

No, I did induction for 4-5 days, felt miserable and then jumped to OWL Rung 4 since i workout quite intensely approx 1 hour cardio and half hour wieghts w/ sauna.
I also eat a lot of mayo mixed with my chicken or fish which keeps me full for long hours. hope the mayo and nuts are not the culprits. But I am ready to jump back to induction if thats what it takes .

I am getting married soon and i look and feel my best when I am 5 lbs lighter. Even my fiance liked me that way!!!

Please give me a meal plan to follow. I would do anything to loose these 5 lbs except starving!!

i don't see how tall you are so i won't assume short, tall or inbetween. you only have 5 pounds that you want to lose however you already mentioned that you "exercise intensely 3-4 days a week". it's quite possible that the 5 pounds is actually muscle and you are toning. you might actually be the size you want to be regardless of what the scale says. which is very cool!

                    Hi Jimmie

I am 5"3". Not very tall, so even 1 lb weight gain shows on my body like 10 lbs. I agree it might be muscle gain. But why are my clothes getting tight instead of getting loose? Thing which frustrates me the most!!!

You were at a very low weight when you started low carb. Since it appears that you lost weight by doing a low calorie, low fat diet, which left you shaky 24/7, I think your body was starving and when you started giving it real food and fat, it latched onto every morsel to get your body back from starvation. That is your body's job.

It goes back to our ancestors, who did not have grocery stores full of every imaginable food around the year. When food was plentiful, they gained weight to get them through the months where they had little food. Over the winter they had little food, so they were "starving" again by the time food became plentiful once again, so the body celebrates by gaining much needed weight.

When you are too thin and have no more fat stores, your body has no choice but start "eating" up your lean body mass (muscles). When you provide adequate fat and protein, it gets busy gaining back muscle, which weighs heavy for the amount of space it takes up.
My only problem is that I cannot loose those 5 lbs back. I am not doing induction, but I follow a very low carb meal plan. No breads, pasta or even fruits except berries and nuts.
I believe your body NEEDS those 5 pounds. You were starving before.

Please suggest me something asap. I asked for help on facebook atkins. But I got no help. This is my last try or else i would be compelled to go back to my previous low calorie, low fat diet(that has left me shaky 24/7).
If you go back to low calorie/low fat and eat so little that you are shaky 24/7, you could have a heart attack. You are losing muscle--your heart is a big muscle. You are shaky due to starving and loss of electrolytes such as potassium.

Your body is trying to save you from yourself. You can totally mess up your metabolism for life doing what you are doing.
People who say it can't be done, should not interrupt those doing it.

i for one learned to live outside that breakfast, lunch and dinner box. i know many of us don't eat breakfast foods just for breakfast and supper left overs often fine their way to our first meal of the day. my choices and putting a meal plan together for you might not appeal to you however, if you can read the allowable food list for induction.
What foods can be eaten on Induction?

i will add this though... considering your height, your exercise and your current weight, i think you need not worry about 5 pounds. even in maintenance, atkins gives a leeway of 5 pounds to stay within.

Have you thought of getting some of those undergarments that hold everything in? They are supposed to make people a size or more smaller and might help you fit into your dress if that is the problem.

As for induction menus - you can eat anything on the allowed list of induction foods, so could have eggs, meat, fish or chicken with salad veggies and/or some cooked veggies in any combination you like.

There is no such thing as a 'breakfast' food on Atkins - eat what foods from the list at whatever time of day you like. We had one member who used to eat chilli for breakfast, and I only ever eat fried eggs and bacon for lunch!

I have just make a crustless quiche with eggs, cream, bacon, cooked cauliflower and cheese in it which makes 6 tasty grab'n'go breakfast slices and ensures I am eating fat, protein and carbs for that first meal of the day.
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
