Flaxseed and Psyllium Husk are recommended by Dr. Atkins. Why do you feel the need to take anything? Are you getting enough fiber daily?

I think you are using a different book than the one we follow here (DANDR 2002)...

In any case, yes, sennosides are extracted from Senna leaves, which is a herbal laxative recommended by Dr. Atkins. However it is still a laxative, and should be used only if everything else fails and constipation persists. Did you try flaxseed meal, psyllium husks or wheat/oat bran with a lot of water? Senokot, Equate Vegetable Laxative and other similar products can have quite an.... umm... explosive... effect.

Does it have maltodextrin among the ingredients? That should add some carbs to it. I guess the nutritional info is not written on the label... so probably the amount of maltodextrin is really tiny and calories, carbs, etc. are all zero.

I personally use it as due to the daily meds I take there are times nothing else works. I use the same brand & there is no carb in it, however the one backdraw is as Georgiana has already mentioned becareful with it as it may have an umm..... explosive effect on more then one occasion so once it kicks~in its best to stay close to the washroom!!!

Always be careful with laxatives. Only take when needed, and if you need it regularly then fine. Most people don't know that your body becomes dependent on it and after a while needs more and stronger ones to operate. For example if you are in your twenties and doing this, imagine what it will be like when you are in your fifties. It is best to try and do it the natural way as much as possible.
