If I it understand right, when you are in ketosis you are burning fat. Is there anything, except for alcohol which will burn before fat when you're in ketosis? And, if you do have a cocktail, how long before the effects are burned away? Hours, days. . . .

Finally, when you're in ketosis, assuming you are not burning off alcohol, isn't that an indication that you're burning fat and thus should be losing weight?

    Maybe I don't understand it right after all . . . .

That's right. If you don't consume alcohol, then you are burning primarily fat. But in the same time your body is also burning some glucose (from the foods you consume or produced via gluconeogenesis), for example, because there are tissues that cannot use ketones or fatty acids for energy.

And, if you do have a cocktail, how long before the effects are burned away? Hours, days. . . .
That really depends on your metabolism, on how much alcohol you drank, on how much you exercised, etc. Maybe some members who drink can tell you their experiences...

Not necessarily. You could be burning dietary fat. So if you overeat, you won't lose weight even though you will be burning fat. And even if you are burning body fat, it just means you are losing fat, not necessarily weight.

I stay pretty close to 1,500 calories a day and exercise. I haven't had anything to drink and my sticks, for the first time, are a deep purple. I haven't lost any additional weight so maybe I'm due for a "whoosh" - sure hope so! Oh, and I'm drinking at least 80 oz of water each day.

How is it possible to lose fat and not lose
      weight????

If you gain muscle and lose fat - they can cancel each other out on the scale You should lose inches though, muscle is denser (smaller by weight) than fat.

You are so right, Julie! Maybe that's it! I did take my measurements when I first started, but I am going to wait to take them again on the 1st. Thanks for reminding me . . .
