  • How much mayo is 'too much'?

I'm new on induction and sometimes when I eat mayo I feel really guilty and wonder if maybe I'm doing harm by eating it.

Are there any of you who have done Atkins successfully and lost a lot of weight while still having mayo (and lots of it)? Thanks!

Re: How much mayo is 'too much'?

i cant eat mayo at all cause it has vinegar and vinegar upsets my gut

also i dont know how healthy mayo is i guess it really depends on the brand and or home made and etc if it was homemade i bet it would be alot more healthy

anyways i dont really know how to awnser this question but i would guess that you could eat alot and still lose weight cause its high fat and zero carb

also if you have any gut problems read this next part but if your gut is fine then you can ignore this next part if you like

the Atkins diet healed my horrible gut illnesses

but when i first started the Atkins diet i ate lots of mayo and mustard now my gut was slowly getting better even with them 2 sauces that were big time irritants to my gut however i did not know cause my gut always hurt

with in 6 months on the Atkins diet my gut was fully healed and then i realized mayo and mustard made my gut hurt when i ate them

so in short even though your gut is healing thanks to the Atkins diet you should still avoid these foods till your gut is fully healed and is able to test the food properly so avoid these foods till then

White and black pepper, vinegar, capers, cinnamon, Nutmeg, Vanilla
    Ketchup, pickles, mayonnaise, relish, mustard
    Coffee, Distilled liquor, Black Tea

You should not eat tablespoons out of the jar, but otherwise mayo is allowed on Atkins and there is no limit set on it. However, it does have carbs since it's made of egg yolks (plus whatever other ingredients). Because the carbs are below 0.5 g per serving, the manufacturer is allowed to write 0 on the label. If you eat only one serving, those <0.5 g should not make a difference. But if you eat "lots of it", then they will add up. You should always make sure you get the majority of your net carbs from vegetables and also eat only because you are hungry or 6 hours have passed since your last meal, not because something is "legal" and has a negligible amount carbs.

Unless you are really binging on mayo, the guilt probably comes from low fat diets, on which mayo is something to run away from.

I don't eat mayo every day but when I do I like to taste it So I eat quite allot when I do eat it and I've been fine.
They always pound into your head to eat high fat so since mayo is just oil and eggs I don't see why you couldn't eat as much as you want.
I tried over and over to make my own mayo and it just wasn't tasting right so I stick to Best Foods/Hellmans.

I am not sure what your "lots of it" is? Care you elaborate
I would not have made it through induction without mayo. Added fats to my veggies and tuna and I like it
We are kind of programmed to shun fat. Sometimes when I look at my ribeye steak I think: am I really allowed to eat that?

A jar at a time would be to much I'm thinking LOL
Don't feel guilty eating fat, reread your book and you'll see why.
