Hello, I am at a crossroads, I almost 1 year ago started atkins. Lost a decent amount of weight. Unfortunately I started about July 1st 2008 and failed July 28th 2008 (ironically my anniversary) we had gone with our 3 children to Busch Gardens to celebrate my husband's birthday and anniversary. I never resumed the diet once I had cheated on it. After getting back, my dad concerned with my heart, I have a condition that causes dizzy spells, chronic migraines and rapid ( and I do mean rapid ) heartbeats. My doctor has told me to lose weight.... but is unsure of how I should do it. Sent me to a nutritionist. He had told me, I didn't fail Atkins, Atkins failed me..... I haven't any clue what that means? But he put me on something equal to the zone. I either lacked the willpower, or didn't see results fast enough. I am very weird like that, get bored easily, I think that is why I did so well at Atkins before. I got the ketone sticks, so everyday I saw what I needed too, I was burning fats! Since dipping out of the zone and totally lost on what I should attempt next, I got introduced to Mona Vie. My parents were immediately interested in it for me, the Pulse is cardio healthy. My cholesterol went from 326-176 in 6 weeks. I am 28 years old, confused as all get out! Should I hop back on the band wagon with Atkins? I remember feeling bad the first couple days, then afterwards, I saw weightloss. I have a very supportive husband, he supports me in what ever I want to do. I go shopping for clothes cause mine keep getting too tight. I am so incredibly bummed out. I am depressed all I end up doing for the day is sitting in on the computer playing my games. How was it for everyone on the second try? Can anyone give me some good imput on how to suceed at this? I don't like feeling like I do... lost, depressed... and reaching for more chocolate cookies or ice cream. Help!!!

Re: Atkin and heart problems
I don't know why your doctor would tell you that Atkins failed you if you lost "a decent amount of weight" in 28 days.Originally posted by jennstager1981 View PostHello, I am at a crossroads, I almost 1 year ago started atkins. Did you develop coping skills for times when things got too tempting?either lacked the willpower, or didn't see results fast enough. I am very weird like that, get bored easily,
Did you recruit your family and friends to help you stay on track?
How fast did/do you expect to lose weight?
Did you stay on Induction Phase or did you move to On-Going Weight Loss Phase?~Megs~

Re: Atkin and heart problems
The nutritionist told me about the failing info. I was happy with my weightloss, I just pulled out of my normal daily routine so I believe myself that is how I fell off the wagon. I would be happy with a weightloss of 1lb a week... like I said I saw everyday the ketones burning. I stayed on an extended induction phase. My husband is pretty supportive with me, my parents were happy with my weightloss as well, but the draw back is my mother is very competitive person, so no matter how well I did.... mom would find some way to belittle it. So I am gonna do this, with my husband's support and not care what any unsupportive person says. I am just trying to get started again.....

Re: Atkin and heart problems
It sounds like your nutritionist perhaps is sceptical about the fat in the Atkins diet - Zone is pretty low carb too. Have you talked to your normal doctor about doing Atkins? I suggest maybe working with him/her. It may be that the word Atkins will scare you doctor so maybe explain how a menu looks like -that you will be eat lots of veggies and that you will add carbs back gradually. I think with your health problem it is necessary for you to have some medical backing where you are. We are not doctors here so we cannot really tell you what to do. Atkins made it clear in his books though that we all need to make sure we have checked with our doctors.Last edited by liv; July 7, 2009, 08:55 AM.

Re: Atkin and heart problems
yeah I ran it past my doctor when I was on it before and he was pretty happy with the weight loss. So I will speak with him again about it, I already put a call into him while typing the thread. So I will be probably back on it.... he really liked the weight loss. See his main issue is that the added weight is putting more stress on my heart than already is. But anyways, I am gonna start planning a menu for the first few days to get back into the swing of things.

Re: Atkin and heart problems
Make sure you read DANDR 2002. Dr. Atkins was a cardiologist and treated many patients. Atkins was developed by him through his knowledge of his patients, his observations with what worked and the results they acheived both in weight loss and health indicators.
Unless I missed something, cheating doesn't mean that Atkins failed you. You need to step back and ask yourself what is more important, cheating everytime you get bored or getting healthy and losing the weight that is hard on your heart.
Dr. Atkins gives us the diet tool. We have to help kick our brain in gear to accept the changes we need to make.
Best wishes.
When you are alone in your head, you are in a bad neighborhood.

Began Atkins 1/4/2004
