  • I'm NOT going to apologize for the way I eat...BUT

I'm NOT going to apologize for the way I eat...BUT it really does suck sometimes...we HAVE to have this "team building" thing at work. And everyone is in charge of bringing some sort of food. I'm in charge of vegee tray & a sweet. Obviously the vegee tray is easy - and the sweet I'm making off of Linda's website (again, easy).

Course, the main dish tomorrow will be sandwiches. One girl is in charge of bringing the bread - and another in charge of the lunchmeats and cheeses. So my friend, in the department, emailed me to ask what lunch meats I can eat...and I told her, "In all honesty there aren't any (that you can buy at walmart, there's a few at whole foods, but she doesn't have one near her) and I don't eat processed meats...so I'll just bring my own main dish"

so she writes back, "you really are a pain, you know this?" Yes. I know. and I told her "I'm not going to apologize for not eating junk food."
I also don't expect them to "cater" to my way of eating.

BUT while I LOVE my lifestyle and I'm very proud that I DON'T eat junk food or processed food or processed meats, etc...I have to admit - it's times like these that it REALLY SUCKS that I look to be "anti-social" because I'm sticking to my guns and not "partaking" in their social food stuff.

oh well though. double edge sword. but i REFUSE to give in just to look social. I'll bring my own food and be the outsider. (plus i AM sharing my sugar-free raspberry crumb cake they all love/i've brought before!)

I just had to vent. thanks.

Yep, it IS tough. The most common foods to be brought in to work are bagels and donuts.. I just walk past them now and stopped bringing stuff in.

You're the strong one! You're the one that deserves kudos and credit! Ignore your collegues who take a negative attitude... some of them are probably overweight and you'll certainly have the last laugh with them!

She's jealous of your success and wants to cut you down to her level. How are you a pain if you're bringing your own meal AND stuff for everyone else? I hate people like that. See also: people that still tell me, after I've been on Atkins for 4 months and lost 35 pounds and been eating healthier than ever before, people STILL say it's a crash diet to my face.

Good for you! I will echo the others about how impressed I am at your willpower.

You don't expect them to cater to you (as you said), so why do they care what you eat?

                People are funny.

                Keep up the good work.

Re: I'm NOT going to apologize for the way I eat...BUT

well - i got through it...everyone sat there eating their sandwiches (made with WHITE BREAD and processed meats and cheeses...) - their potato chips - and the sugar-filled german chocolate cake (which I've never liked anyways) and key lime pie...

I didn't end up taking my sugar-free pie, but I don't think anyone woulda noticed... lol

I brought a vegee tray and guacamole to dip it in and a chicken ceasar salad.
I also had some of the awesome tasting HUGE strawberries the boss had brought...and oh MY were they yummy!!!!!!!! (ok, seriously - me thinks I like berries more than dessert now! lol).

But I'm so wrapped up in eating more organic and "REAL FOODS" ... that anymore - even looking at the junk they were eating - I no longer even "wish" i could eat it. I finally feel like I've gotten to the point where I'm like, "wow - why are you eating that food-like-substance that was CHEMICALLY created instead of REAL food?"

I'm actually listening to "In Defense of Food" by Michael Pollan (it's on CD) and have his "Ominivore's Dilemma" on hold at the library...

But even on the back - it says "Instead of food, we're consuming "edible foodlike substances" - no longer the products of nature but of food science.

He talks about how we should only eat REAL food - the sort of food our great grandmothers would recognize as food. And that's the new way I'm going to look at food (for the most part). Seriously though - whoever thought eating all this packaged and processed "food" would be healthy for us? If it's not natural - why would I want to eat it?

There's also another book I've put on hold at the library called "Twinkie Deconstructed" which goes through the process of finding out EXACTLY where all these wierd ingredients on food labels come from - such as 'polysorbate 60' among others...and that's the kind of thinking I'm changing to...why DO I want to eat something that has all these ingredients that #1 I can't pronounce and #2 aren't found in NATURE!?

It almost grosses me out to think about how a dorito is made...I mean really? Or a twinkie - I don't even want to THINK about the un-natural ingredients in that thing.

But anyways - just wanted to say - thank you all so very much for your support!!!!!
