  • Has anyone used ketostix?

Hi! I came across Bayer's Ketostix at the pharmacy & they are used for urinalysis and Ketosis testing.

I understand you have to test first thing every morning.

Any experience with these and do they help give you more control in the diet?

    Thanks

Yah they really are no big deal, but it may encourage you when you see the stick turn purple. It did for me the first time I started Atkins.

        Hi
I use them once every couple of days to check im in ketosis, the stick will turn a pink or purple shade to show you are in Ketosis. Although these do not work for everyone. I just like to check every now and then that im just in Ketosis, i find them quite helpful.

I used them when I did Atkins the first time around ('03). Currently, I do not use them. Its just a personal preference..its different for everyone. I like how Cafe does it..just checking occasionally.

I was going to buy some but can't find them locally. One of my local pharmacies had never heard of it and had no clue what I was talking about (well, one of the assistants knew and knew what Atkins was). And I just ended up deciding it wasn't that important and I wasn't going to spend money ordering them. I know a lot of people find them helpful.

          Good luck, Jane

I am using them and find them to be a great way to reinforce my effort, in lieu of weighing.

It really feels good to have ketosis confirmed.

I have ketosis confirmed every morning when I wake up with a bad taste in my mouth... don't need a stick for that

They are a waste of money -- dark purple color shows dehydration more than anything -- I have never shown any color on the sticks but I know I'm in keotsis because of bubbly urine, a nasty taste in my mouth in the morning and the inches are gone. I weigh once every 6 weeks when the 6 week exercise challenge is over -- other than that I don't have any need to weigh or use the ketostix.

                  Re: Has anyone used ketostix?

i use them and to be honest with you i dont know what to think of them. i started atkins wednesday the 8th. didnt show me in ketosis until saturday. thats fine but i had already lost 8lbs by then. its now monday and i'm down over 12lbs in less than a week! im not sure how much of this can be water due to the fact that i have already been taking a prescribed dieuretic from my doctor. i mean i dont think atkins would have made me lose 12 more punds of water that the dieuretic already hasnt got to? i could be wrong? all i know is im feeling great, hardly ever hungry anymore, and the weight is coming off! focus more on your weightloss and not what the strip tells you. from what i have read in other posts they are not the most reliable things on the planet. if you do decide you want to use them buy the walmart brand (relion) they are much cheaper 50/$6 as apposed to bayers prices. good luck!

Carole's correct. They are totally useless. The best indicator is to stand in front of a mirror, nude, every two weeks or so.
