  • Should I get out of induction & go onto OWL?

Hi! I have been on induction 18 days. Lost 5.9 lbs thus far.

Should I go onto OWL now & eat +5 net carbs?

How do you know when to get on with it?

I am concerned that if I get out of induction, I'll stop losing weight.

    Thanks

it's a common misnomer that leaving induction = no more weight loss.

The addition of 5 net carbs of veggies will allow you more flexibility to your meals and will help you continue to loose weight. It's not something to be feared, it is something to embrace.

The final decision rests with you. Good luck.

Do you have DANDR 2002? In Chapter 13 it explains what you should consider in taking this decision. Are you bored with the Induction foods and want more variety? Do you have a lot of weight to lose? How metabolic resistant are you?

I am concerned that if I get out of induction, I'll stop losing weight.
The fourth question there scares people away, because it asks, "Are you willing to slow down the pace of weight loss in exchange of more food choices?" And reading this people think, "HE|| NO!!! Why would I want to slow down my weight loss?!?! " But the question is often read the wrong way. Yes, your weight loss will slow down as you progress through OWL, on one hand because you will have less weight left to lose and on the other hand because you will increase your carbohydrate level... and increase it... and increase it even more... until you reach a point when you stop losing. That carbohydrate level is your CCLL (Critical Carbohydrate Level for Losing)---go above it and you'll stop losing weight (you won't gain though because you'll still be below your CCLM as you are only adding 5 net carbs at once), stay below it and you'll lose weight. I think knowing this number will make your life much easier since you'll know exactly how many carbs you can eat while continuing to lose weight.

So yes, your weight loss will slow down as you increase your carb level and move to the upper rungs of OWL. And yes, at one point you will stop losing weight, something which is perfectly normal and will mean you either have an intolerance to the last food you've added (very useful to know your food intolerances!) or you have reached your CCLL (did I say how useful this is? ). However moving to OWL Rung 1 and adding more veggies does not cause weight loss issues for most folks. In fact, I've seen many whose weight loss accelerated after adding those extra low carb veggies.

That being said, you should read Chapters 12 and 13 in DANDR. Moving to OWL is a very personal decision and it's impossible for an outsider to say what is best for you.
