Re: Baking mix
In stage two yes but at the very end of OWL
(OWL is stage two) It is wheat gluten based and looks fine for rung 9. I kind of make my own mix with wheat gluten so I am not ordering any of that stuff at the moment

Re: Baking mix
The reviews I've read say it's pure nasty! Even when I'm at that level I'll go with Carbquik or Bob's Red Mill Low Carb Baking Mix, both which have great reviews (for different applications). Do a search on all three and see what you find.

Re: Baking mix
Hmmm
A basic pancake recipe to serve 4 persons usually only asks for 2 cups of flour.
When I make pancakes for me using wheat gluten, soy flour and wheat bran and a bit of flax and whey powder I don't think I add that much "flour" I eat it with some ham or bacon or canadian bacon usually (or cream and strawberries sometimes) OWL is about portion control and if we were used to eat a stack of pancakes that reached the roof - it may be time to rethink that practice

Re: Baking mix
Do you have a link to a review ldyj. I am just curious.
I don't mind soy so I thought looking at the list of ingredients that I would not mind that stuff

Re: Baking mix
I found this one very interesting because the tester actually used both products and seemed very honest about the results.

I can't use soy products at all (per my oncologist!) so that's why I do a lot of research on this stuff. I've also looked at coconut flour as well as the nut flours.
Good luck - let me know what you decide!Last edited by ldyj; July 13, 2009, 07:59 PM.

Re: Baking mix
I have almond flour which is delicious -- and is acceptable for rung 3. I made a almond bread which I fried in butter and put DeVinci sugar free syrup on top -- it tasted like french toast and was so good to have for breakfast.Originally posted by ldyj View PostI've also looked at coconut flour as well as the nut flours.

Re: Baking mix
I have some almond flour but I've used it very sparingly even though I'm on Rung 3. I'm just afraid I'll over do it. I never did get it straight how much would equal the allotted portion of almonds. 1 oz?? Just not sure.

Re: Baking mix
Thank you guys for your help. I am having a hard time and I think I’ll always have a hard time with some of my cravings. My favorite food is corn and potatoes and I love desert but I am trying not to think of it and do what I need to do to be healthy. Good news though is that I no longer need to take my diabetes meds. I am only 28 and I was taking 7 pills a day and now I only take 2 one for thoyiod and one for birth control but I also take my fish oils and vitamins.

Re: Baking mix
Nicole, try to focus on what you CAN have! As you get through Induction and move onto additional Rungs, some of the things you think you can't do without will no longer be an issue. For those that still are, there are great low-carb substitutions that can be made. Start looking at recipes - there are tons, and I do mean TONS of them out there!

According to fitday's entry for unroasted almonds:Originally posted by ldyj View PostI have some almond flour but I've used it very sparingly even though I'm on Rung 3. 1 oz = 5.6 carbs -3.3 fiber = 2.3 net carbs
1 cup ground = 19 carbs -11 fiber = 6 net carbs
Therefore 1/4 cup (4 T) = 4.7 carbs - 2.8 fiber = 1.9 net carbs
I calculate that a tad less than 5 tablespoons would be the equivalent of one ounce for OWL.Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
Take a look at the thread from the latest Veggie Challenge to see how others manage it!

Yowza, this sounds like heaven! Any chance you could post a link for the almond bread? I started drooling just imagining this meal!!Originally posted by imagood1 View PostI have almond flour which is delicious -- and is acceptable for rung 3.
