  • Protein powder mixes?

I've come across the occasional low-carb recipe that calls for protein powder. I'm not familiar with these at all, aside from the fact they exist, and was wondering what, if any, powder is Atkins-friendly.

If none are, I'll just skip those recipes.

    Thanks!

    Re: Protein powder mixes?

The recipes I've seen which called for "protein powder" were referring to whey protein powder, which is available in the pahramacy area of most grocery stores where I live (as well as nutrition stores, drug stores, etc). There are many different brands which vary in flavour, carb count, etc., so check the labels. My experience is that they tend to be sweetened with aspartame, but I never looked for sucralose-sweetened protein powder when I was buying it before;-)

There are usually different flavours, too. so you may want to go with plain if it's for baking, or a flavoured variety if it's for shakes. If it's for shakes, it's worth doing some research to find a brand that tastes good in water (without milk); when I bought my last batch about 2 years ago, I bought Optimum Nutrition brand for this specific reason.

    Hope this helps!

I use some whey powder in my baking (an in my shake) It is fine for rung 2 - dairy. Most that I have seen are sweetened with splenda and ACE. There are plain ones to be had too.

I use Vitamin World's Whey Protein with no sweetener. I've used it for years.
