  • Beyond frustrated!!

Ok...I need to rant and get some opinions.

Have been doing so well....steady drops....a few days where nothing happens but overall still decrease.

I step on my scale at home, sans clothes, says 271. Which is fine...its my tom. No big whoop....from 305 to 271, I'm not complaining. Get to the doctors office, says 288!!! With my clothes on, no shoes. Get to the hospital...says 284 no shoes. I'm sorry but there is no way I am 288. I went from a 22/24 to an 18 in pants (sometimes a 20 if I dont want to suck it in) and an 18 in a shirt from a 22.

Anyone that is honest knows....at 288 and at 5'5 there is no way I would be in an 18. Not even in the realm of possibility. I have had people complimenting me on how weird it is to hug me because they can tell by how their arms get around me that I've lost so much.

There is no way, in my mind those other scales are right. None. I dont feel it, I dont look it, and I dont fit into clothes that would indicate that.
    I even went from a 40DD to a 38D.

Please help me out here...am I going crazy??

I have just found that scales vary. Just pick one scale and stick to that as your "official" weight. Take every thing else with a grain of salt. Since you have been using your home scale all along, I would go by that.

    Just my .02

    Take care, J

you know...and with the bra thing...we're not talking fully extended either. We're talking second set of hooks, Vickies Secret. I am absolutely beside myself with the discrepencies. Even the nurse at the office (because I go in every week to compare) looked at the scale like wth.

I guess, I just want every scale to read the same number. Doc made a smart assed comment....oh..I see it hasnt gone down that much after all. 288....you need to step it up. I said...for your information...the scale at home says 271 and I have gone down 3 to 4 sizes in 2 months....thats an accomplishment and I think your scale is wrong.

You went down from a 20-22 to 18-20. THAT is what matters, what makes you look better and be healthier, not some number which reads differently on every scale and doesn't take into account if you gained a pound of water weight or lost 2 lbs of fat and gained 2 of muscle.

I'm actually surprised that you are a size 18 at 5'5" and 270something lbs. That's quite awesome. You must be carrying your weight really well!

Just read your reply. Could your doctor also measure your body fat %, not only your weight?

Yeah....I always look about 40 lbs less than I am. Always have. When I was 250...I was always able to say 185. Let me post a picture....lol...its easier.

Well 185 is an exaggeration, but you get my point.

                  Re: Beyond frustrated!!

WOW your doctor seems like a smart a$$ and I'm sorry but you are doing your own thing AND really making it happen - its one thing for people to play around and claim you aren't putting effort to making changes but for your own doctor to make a comment like that is really hard to take in. If it were possible I would change doctors and stick a boot where the sun don't shine. It amazing that because he IS your doctor, more than anyone he should see the difference in what you're doing with yourself. Don't let his stupid comment put you down and like Georgiana said its the fact that you lost the clothing sizes that REALLY show the difference. Scales really aren't accurate if you bouncing from one to another - they all really vary so definitely stick to one scale and that will determine your progress. I do that as well!

For some reason, when I go to the doctor as well my weight is always higher there than at home - there could be many reasons for that. One example of course is that at home I weight myself early in the morning with nothing in my stomach and no clothes on - that will tell you your beginning of the day weight - as we progress through the day, we have the weight of food and clothes being carried around with us and therefore weight more.

Don't be hard on yourself and I as well as other here KNOW you are making progress and a big difference - we are all proud of you and don't let anyone discourage you!

Sorry this was long but I just didn't want you to lose the motivation you have going for yourself! Good luck and keep it up

                    Re: Beyond frustrated!!

Thank Netty...that helps alot. It's so frustrating and I do get demotivated when I see that and think well screw it. Then...when I put my skirt on today and this black t shirt I said no....its tight, but it fits and there is no way I am going to let it get me down.

I just am frustrated. Ya know... I mean....4 yrs ago I was 328 (right before my father died....stress....depression and food...a wicked combo) then a move, a job loss and I was up to 305 if I am being totally accurate, and I said this isnt happening anymore, which is when I started Atkins in May.

I was so shocked this past week when I actually walked into a Victorias Secret and bought 2 - 38D and 1 - 40-D bra. Then...when I was able, albeit tight, to slip an wiggle into an 18 skirt and my old 18 jeans (maybe its because of all the excercise I have been doing) I was all happy and crying victory. Then I went to the doctor and the hospital and felt like a slap in the face.

                      Re: Beyond frustrated!!

Just remember that no 2 scales will give you the same weights. If the other 2 scales showed higher than your current weight, they probably would have given you higher starting numbers as well.

I weigh myself only on Friday mornings, on my scale, in my bathroom (it will weigh differently if I move to the kitchen!). So I wouldn't let the other numbers get to you.

Keep up the good work - bras don't lie!!!

                          Re: Beyond frustrated!!

Never take the scales in your doctor's office or the hospital as factual! I asked my doc one time why his scales were always so much higher than mine. He said they weren't accurate, that it was just a "guideline" so that he'd know if I'd gained or lost a large amount of weight in a short time. They never take the time to calibrate the scales (don't want to spend the $$$ I'd imagine!) and look at how many people get on those scales in a day!

You KNOW what you weigh and you've worked hard to get there! Good for you!!

No infact , I always said I'm not getting on. But on my home scale I was actually 305. According to my scale at home today I am 271.

Today when I went into the docs office just to check the nurse I normally talk to was even shocked....she said theres no way. So I am just going to leave my scale where it is...and go with that.

I am fitting into a full cup size and 2 inch smaller bra on the second set of hooks and its not cutting in...its fitting normally and tonight I put on a size 20 pair of satin pajamas that I could grease my way into and not be able to breathe in before.
