  • Information Overload!

This isn't my first rodeo - I've done Atkins before. But this is the first time I've spent so much time in a user's forum. Always before I worked and just didn't have time. Now I'm retired and can spend time reading and learning. BUT I may be getting an information overload!

Let's see - Atkins is a diet of fat, protein and carbs, with fat being the main focus. Of course, fat is also the highest in calories. But calories don't count, except if you have too many of them. Eat until you're full, but if you eat too much protein it can turn to glucose and that will turn to fat. With counting carbs, calories (yes, you have to be aware) protein and fiber (to subtract from the carbs), well, you can see where a rambling mind can take you!!

I think I truly understand what calorie or point counters go through!

    Re: Information Overload!

I think because we trouble shoot a lot on boards like this, we tend to try and help people with issues. So then we have to look at what is going on and why is it not working etc. etc. and it can get a bit much sometimes.

But I think the Atkins diet is set up to be very easy and that is what drew me to it. Just follow these basic rules - and eat when you are hungry. That was what attracted me to it. And to me the fundamental and important difference between point counters and Atkins is that on Atkins I can eat and that calmst me down. If I have to count points and reduce foods I get too much anxiety about it and eat more than I did before I "dieted" That is why Atkins is the right diet for me.

Very true, when I started induction the first time I just did what the book said and didnt worry about anything else until later on, I found that after induction my eating pattern had changed so much I wasnt eating so many calories to begin with so it evened out.
