  • I have a thyroid problem! =D

All along Ive been wondering why I haven't lost any weight!
I've been having problems with hair loss, my nails have been horrid and my skin cold. XD And apparently its more likely for red heads to get it.
It just clicked in me and my mums head aye.
I always thought 'thyriod problems' was something to do with baggy thighs so I never botehred to explore it.
My Mum got me some pills today, so Im mega excited.
    =D
    I HAVE A THYROID PROBLEM!

It sounds stupid im so happy about it.. But it explains why its so fricken hard to lose an itch when I ONLY eat meat, eggs, butter and veges and exercise like mad.
Now its FINALLY going to work =] hopefully.

How do you know? Was this a medical diagnosis based on blood lab results?

        Well, Atleast Im pretty curtain.
No shes not, but it does run in the family.. Im not positive, but taking pills for it is harmless. The pharmacist lady seemed to know alot about it and said it'd be fine for me to take.

I would be wary of taking 'over the counter' pills for a thyroid condition without checking with a doctor.

Have you looked up any possible side effects or counter indications for the pills you were advised to take?

Nowadays my husband is on a large selection of pills and so for each one we go online and do some research as to whether they will fight with each other or his conditions as even our doctor with details of all his previous problems on file can (and did ) miss the possibility of reactions between medications for his different medical issues.

A pharmacist will not have seen your medical notes to check for any problems so is even more likely to misdiagnose!!

In the U.S. blood work is required and in some cases diagnostic testing. I'm tested every year (or sometimes more often, if necessary) to determine if my doseage is correct. It gets adjusted frequently. Be clear, it isn't anything to fool around with.

The counter girl had a thyroid problem herself so she did know abit.
Its just new zealand doctors are hopeless.. Infact the doctors have never helped me really.

Go to a doctor and have your thyroid numbers checked before you start taking the medication.

Taking the medication alters what your test results will be. Taking someone else's thyroid medication is a bad idea as the dosage depends on the person. Most people, even family members, are likely to be on different dosages.

And taking it can be harmful if it's the wrong dosage (too much is bad!)

And the medication isn't an easy weight loss fix. If anything, having a thyroid condition makes weight loss even harder as it is often still a slow process. Even being at the right dosage for me, weight loss is slow and I have to be very careful about what I'm eating.

So again, don't take the meds (taking another persons medication is really a bad idea) and see the doctor first and find out for sure.

If you have a doctor that won't help you, find another doctor. One simple blood test will tell you if you truly have a thyroid problem... We are all very serious about this.

                    Re: I have a thyroid problem! =D

Sorry for the scare.. Im kinda bad with words..
                    English isn't my best subject.
When I said pills I meant supplements, my mum thought it'd be good because I have to keep my carbs very low other wise ill just gain, there the supplements dr. atkins recomends to take. The lady at the counter meant that if I have a low thyroid problem this could help.
It hasn't though, I went to the doctors today, im getting a blood test tomorrow (by the time I got my notes from the doctor the blood testing place thing was closed..
Ive been doing alot of research and apparently sometimes they come out as normal even if you have it.. My mum says we'll just go to doctor to doctor if we cant get help though.
I also found out this whole infertile thing and people who has thyroid problems are slowly dying. Im not sure if its true but its kinda scary..
I really hope I can get help for this, im so miserable, I do everything im meant to yet I just barely maintain weight.

I have hypothyroidism, I found out 3 years ago.
I take synthroid which is a hormone replacement pill.
                      Things are normal now.
You should not stress about it, you may not even have it.
You can treat it with natural supplements.

were the blood tests easy for you?
                        were your temperatures majorly abnormal?
                        Mine are just slightly abnormal.

But I have alot of the signs
                        Depression
                        No period this year
                        Cold body
Dryness on my arms and leg
                        Stupid weight gain
Can't loss a thing unless im hardly eating anything and then I just gain it back
                        brittle nails and hair
                        and Constipation.
Plus im a redhead and apparently there more likely to get it.
My Grandma has it and my aunt has a thyroid problem thats like the opposite or something.

Do you have public health care in your country?
If you can you may need to come to America and see a doctor before............................................ ................

I hope you can find a doctor that can check your ths levels.
The blood test was less than 3 minutes and I did not have a temp problem.
I got my hypothyroidism because I avoided salt. Try sea salt on your food.
                          Now I have a goiter.

****, I avoid salt! Wait so.. Salt is good?
I have tinned tuna regularly now though which contains some salt and I heard celery has it so I have that too.

I hope I find the right one too, Im scared I won't, its hard to live like this, I work so hard to lose weight but it just can't happen.

                              Salt is good and bad.
We need salt. I use ionized sea salt it is good.
