  • No more bars!

I have an addiction to them! If I buy them, they are gone. Not right away, but I feel they are slowing down my loss. I can "handle" the shakes, but for now - the bars are done. Let's see if that helps. I feel better just admitting it. Whew!

    Good decision!

Anyway their ingredients are not induction-legal so they are better left till the correct rung of OWL
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
Take a look at the thread from the latest Veggie Challenge to see how others manage it!

I was the same way with the bars...if they were in the house I gravitated towards eatign them instead of better food choices. Admitting you have a problem is the first step!
I am the same with any of the sugar free candy (Russel Stover and I broke up a few months ago).
I think the lure is the "sweet" sunstitue and the mistaken sense that they are good low carb options.
      sigh......

absolutely the bars are only to be used in an "emergancy" - but if you can give them up - that's better...

now for the shakes - while they're obviously a "convenience" food - have you tried getting a good whey protein powder?

My fave I've found so far is Greens & Whey by Biochem - and I mix it with SoDelicious Unsweetened Coconut Milk (I'm past the nuts rung)...
But this way - there's no chemicals like the ones found in those shakes - and the coconut milk has the MCFA's (medium chain fatty acids) and 1 carb per 8 oz.
And the greens & whey protein powder is 1 carb per scoop...so 2 carbs for a VERY healthy VERY delicious shake!

The last time I looked at that product they had either dextrose or fructose. Does it still? I've been looking for a decent shake.

The Greens & Whey Protein Powder I bought (from Whole Foods) by Biochem:

Other Ingredients: Xanthan gum, natural vanilla flavor, natural cream flavor, lecithin, contains a milk ingredient (whey protein isolate).

              serving size 2 level scoops
              100 cals
              11 g fat
              1 g carb
              sugars <1g

And whey protein isolate is one of those foods - not actually listed in the book - but here on the boards some people like it and use it from the second rung on - some do not. i love it, personally.

                  Re: No more bars!

The whey powders just never sounded good to me -- I don't like drinking a meal, I like to chew way too much. svelt why not try the eggnog shake recipe in place of the prepackaged shakes --- at least that way they would be legal and you know exactly what's in them (no chemicals or gums).

Thanks for the feedback and support. The eggnog shake sounds wonderful!
I've lost 15 lbs and kept it off, but I think getting rid of the bars (and dare I say, shakes) will re-start my loss again.

                      Re: No more bars!

whey protein - at least for me - is also a part of my (when i AM exercising....) exercising regime.

It helps repair/rebuild muscles - when taken after a workout.

truth be told - i haven't HAD my whey protein shake in a while because i'm having surgery this tuesday and put my gym membership on hold last month.
once I get back in though - you bet your butt I'll be drinkin' them again. I LOVE the taste of them - plus if you make it right - with ice or frozen fruit (berries, from the berries rung, obviously) it makes it so cold and nice and thick.

again - it's not for everyone - but it's definitely a legal option!

The eggnog shakes are fantastic. I drink one every day for breakfast! Get a few flavors of Capella drops and you can vary the taste to keep it exciting.
