  • 1 bad meal

Hi everyone. I have been on atkins for 3 weeks and i lost 16 pounds so far. I plan to do the induction phase for 8 to 10 weeks because I have 80 pounds to lose. Anyways I have been doing great but last night I accepted an invitation to a buddies house for dinner and his wife made a great homemade meal of lasagna and a pie and I did not want to be rude so I ate the food she prepared. Next time if I get an invite I will let the person know I am on atkins but Today I am back to my induction phase. Does anyone know how that will affect me?

    Thanks

    Jason

you only have to go back to induction if you're out of keotsis....once you are back in (a couple days should do it) go back where you were. It is best to let people know you are on a "special diet" when you go to their homes so you don't get held hostage to how they cook.

You'll be ok. You may want to do induction for a shorter time than 8-10 weeks so you can gradually introduce carbs back. This way you get into the habit of how you can eat and lose/maintain weight. If you do induction for a mjority of the time you may find it difficult to adjust to the "lifestyle" of Atkins versus the "diet."

Either way you sound like your doing good. You will survive one bad meal, but don't make it a habit. Every time you cheat it gets easier and easier to do so.

I'm doing an extended induction as well. I got really stuck with the weight loss, so I'm doing the Fat Fast as well (one more day to go!!!). But I think you're doing great! 16 lbs is really fantastic! So, just get back on the wagon and don't fret over one bad meal. All you can do is keep moving forward. I've had to work around eating at friends' houses- it feels awkward saying "can you please not put bbq sauce on a few pieces of chicken for me," but I'm putting me first with this weight loss.

          Good luck to you!

Just to put it out there... you may not want to let them know it is a "diet" unless you are able to defend Atkins. Many people are so against it.. It may go over better if you y just say the Dr said I can't have such and such b/c I'm pre-diabetic or something along that line may work best. Kinda depends on where and who you are with.

It is okay if it takes me a little longer to get there, besides this is where I'm going to stay forever and that is a really long time!!!

Thanks so much for the reply. How long were you doing induction before you got stuck and how much did you lose before you did that fat fast? Just curious. What has that been like only eating 1000 calories per day ( all fat calories) ?

First, I want to 2nd what Amanda said- people are really, really against Atkins. I haven't had one person say anything that wasn't negative about my low carb WOE. But my husband is almost a doctor (hehee)- he's a medical student- and he does a lot of research in medical journals and such- low carb is the way to go, weight-wise and health-wise.

Okay, about my getting stuck. I have about 35 lbs to lose that I gained while pregnant. Well, I gained a lot more than that but lost a lot by starving myself, basically. Then it started creeping back up, so I had to do something. I thought I'd give Atkins a try since you can actually eat real food. I lost about 8 lbs the first week, then nothing for 4 weeks. I mean not a single pound. I didn't change a thing either. So, I looked into the Fat Fast and am giving it a try. 1000 calories per day is not too bad; I've eaten much less on other diets. But it's not a barrel of monkeys either- especially after dining on steak and dark meat chicken (yum, that's making my mouth water). But the Fat Fast is only for a short time, then I up it to 1200 calories (woohoo), then a little more....it just depends on how the weight loss is going. But you are SO NOT a candidate for the FF. You are doing so great! If I can get to where I can eat more and lose, I'm never looking back! I'm in this boat from extreme yo-yo dieting for so long. So really, don't fret over that one meal. Just keep moving forward!

So true. A couple of months ago, I posted a thread about this. Whenever I mentioned "Atkins," I got an earful. Whenever I said, "I'm really cutting down on a lot of processed, starchy foods, and eating more vegetables, cheese and meats," people invariably said, "Way to go!"
