sorta OT: force-fed cheat... :)

literally - i was drugged and forced to cheat this morning! lol

ok - before anyone gets all crazy - i'm just trying to laugh today.

I had a tympanplasty and a mastoidechtomy performed on my right ear drum today. Basically my right ear drum had a hole half the size of the ear drum - and the rest of the ear drum was all scar tissue...I've had tubes in my ear since the age of 7 and literally HUNDREDS of ear infections (not allowed to get water in my ears, when i do - I get an infection).

Because of the number of times i've had tubes - my ear drum pretty much developed a natural hole where the tubes were always placed - and it just kept getting bigger and bigger after the last time it fell out a few years ago (and was obviously never put back in...).

The tympanoplasty was to repair the hole in the ear drum and the mastoidechtomy removed all the scar tissue...and now my ear/right side of my head feels like someone hit me in the head with a freakin' sledgehammer!
it's really weird cuz the left side of my head feels perfectly fine!

But yeah when i was coming too - they were feeding me applesauce and sprite. so i can literally say i was "drugged and force-fed to cheat". hahaha (ouch)

it's all good though - really.
just wanted to come on here and share my pain with all of you. hehe.

hey - now i know how this smiley must feel! literally/physically!
but at least i got me some good pain meds!

what does suck though - recovery time will be about 6 - 8 weeks (so absolutely NO gym time or exercising at all - but my gym let me put my membership on hold)...and they said about 4 months total til my hearing gets better in general...course I am also awaiting a hearing aid for my left ear so that'll help a lot.

oh well - guess i should just think more about healing instead of caring about the gym. it'll still be there once i'm healed. plus - on the bright side - i save that monthly fee for a while!
PLUS hopefully this should also help the tinnitus (ringing) in that ear.

I spent a bad night about 2 weeks ago being "cared for" by people who don't understand Atkins....so after a miserable weekend afterward I'm back on track and back to where I was on the 12th when this happened.......

I had earraches, infections, etc. until I was in my mid 30's -- they didn't tube my ears but wanted to do other things that thankfully my parents didn't agree with. Congrats on geting your ears fixed -- hope it works!!

thank you all so VERY much for the well wishes.

yeah - i wasn't even going to (couldn't have if i tried) say anything about atkins...once i realized it was applesauce i really didn't care - lol.
I know I'll be OK and if need be - induction is always there for me to do for a week or two! (but i don't think it'll be an issue)

course i remember - on the way home when my hubby and mom stopped at CVS to get my medication - hubby asked me if i wanted more sprite and I yelled at him - GET DIET! and he rolled his eyes (but got me sprite zero anyways lol)

course i look like an alien now - i have a HUGE headband on my head which has a big cup like thing on my right ear and while the left side of my head feels perfectly fine - the right side of my head feels like someone took a hammer to my ear

my mom just showed me the pics of the inside of my ear that they took - really pretty gross! but also pretty cool...
I literally only had a half of an ear drum they had to replace it with a graft. sounds fun!!

also when i was a kid i had lots of ear infections and a tube put in my right ear its out now and is good but i still cant get any water in my right ear with out immediately feeling crappy & a temporary 10 mins semi headace/fever

yup - that is my life! no water whatsoever. instant infection if I do.
Been that way since I was 7. I should SERIOUSLY have stock taken in earplugs! swimming = earplugs...BATHING every day = earplugs...
i remember once at a friend's birthday in high school I couldn't be a part of their water balloon fight because I didn't have my ear plugs.

a few years back - went to Belize in Central America with a friend - went snorkeling - KNEW I was going to end up with an infection (even using ear plugs) and I did.

Next year will be my honeymoon somewhere in the Carribean - I can already guarantee one then too. BUT it'll be worth it for the time!

I get my hair done at a salon - must bring my ear plugs.

it's my life though - pretty used to it by now - in fact I have nightmares about being caught somewhere involving water and I'm terrified because I don't have my ear plugs on me.

I always used to joke that I was going deaf - but unfortunately it's not a joke anymore. Literally the hearing loss is so bad in both ears.
I'm 30 years old and I AM going deaf.

My doc swears to me he doesn't think I will go completely deaf - which obviously is good - but again, I am in the process of getting a hearing aid for my left ear through vocational rehab (hope to have it within the next 2 months)...and asides from fixing the hole in my eardrum - and removing the scar tissue - this surgery should also (please dear god, I pray!) hopefully help the tinnitus (ringing) in my right ear.

wow - it's 10 p.m. here and I've slept pretty much all day...i hope i'll be able to sleep tonight! cuz i'm TOTALLY awake now! in pain, but awake! lol.
