  • discouraged...help!!!

this is my second time doing atkins, i did it once before when i was 16 and lost a significant amount of weight in a very short period of time, 75 pounds in 5 months!! here i am 4 years later and have gained it all back!! i recently saw body shots of my self and about puked!! i realized i need to make a change! i started atkins three weeks ago,and in the first week and a half i lost 8 pounds....and then i cheated for one meal (gained about 3 pounds back), but got right back on the wagon immediately and have not lost any weight since!!! I've been following the diet very strictly but still nothing...im getting extrememly discouraged!!!

Work out at the gym, learn what your basil metabolic rate is and compare it to your work out ethics. If you really want to lose the weight, don't dispare or feel bad about messing up but grab a magazine and hit the gym its that easy

Re: If only i didn't cheat.....?

It is normal with a stop somewhere around the second week. Most of us see a pause there. Just stick to it. It will start moving again.

If you are wondering if your menu is fine you can share it with us and if anything needs fixing we'll let you know.

            Hi Rayley!

Congratulations on your 8 lb loss...that's fabulous!

With regards to the cheat.....just keep going...you did it, it happened and this time plan ahead and look at making choices that will not leave you open to cheat. Yup, those "one time cheats" do put a cramp in progress...BUT you can overcome it now and turn it around...it's just going to take some work and patience and dedication.

Stock up on all the legal foods your allowed, drink LOTS of water and fit some form of exercise into your daily routine and before you know it the weight will start coming off again.

Look back at why you may have cheated and learn from it so the next time a situation pops up that may resemble the circumstances of this past cheat you will have a plan B on how to get through it without cheating....the feelings of guilt and the ramifications of those few pounds that creep back on from those "one time cheats" out weigh the "perceived" and VERY short lived gratification of the cheat.

Remember, you're the one in control...not the food...you deserve to have good health and joy....believe in yourself and do everything you can to get closer to achieving your ultimate health goal.

Keep going, I know you can do it!

I am sorry, Exfortek, but it doesn't sound like you are following the Atkins diet at all.

Take advantage of the nice weather and go outside for a walk or ride your bike. Buy some exercise DVD's and exercise home if that's how you prefer. And you can do strength training using your own body weight (push-ups, squats, etc.) and/or cans of _____. Or get a stability ball. Or resistance bands. You really don't need a gym to exercise or any fancy/expensive equipment.

Oh, and you could join some challenges on the Board.

Hard to say without amounts. The foods seem to be "legal". Are you eating 3 cups of vegetables? What veggies are you eating? Just lettuce stuff or veggies higher in fiber too.

How many pork rinds are you eating? A whole bag? 1/2 oz?

How much cheese is "some cheese"? Are you within the 3-4 oz limit?

Any processed meats you are eating?

Is your fat intake high enough? It should be about 65% of the total calories. The protein should be around 30%.

As Liv said, it's normal for your weight loss to pause a little after the first two weeks. Did your body measurements change? Inches are a better indicator that you are losing fat.

Don't expect to lose every day or even every week. The scale is going to do some crazy things some times. If stepping on is depressing then put it away for awhile. Exercise and moving about is a key ingredient to your success both emotionally and physically so do exercise. You can do this!

Ok - it's understandable not wanting to be seen at a gym...
First thing on that - just remember if you are to ever join a gym - anyone and everyone there is there for themselves - they're NOT there to make you feel uncomfortable on purpose - in fact they're in their own little world and they just want to get in their exercise and get out.
PLUS if there ever WAS someone making you feel uncomfortable - just move to a different spot in the gym and even tell the front desk...

But since you way you're not comfortable there yet...I assume you have a DVD player? Go get some exercise DVD's. Get a step (for step aerobics).
My absolute FAVORITES are Gilad (the name of the instructor - but these are awesome cuz his background is usually hawaii)...Crunch DVD series (this one is a much younger/funner crowd).

Get some exercise bands - buy some cheap weights from walmart.

You don't NEED a gym to work out. really.

I wish you luck and love! You WILL do this.

Also - just remember - as far as foods go - eat only what god/the earth gives us...don't eat processed foods that humans came up with in a lab.
Food should be whole-unprocessed and from the earth.
