  • My furry four legged son

Since we got our dog, Chester, I have fed him some of what we eat. Since we have been eating the Atkins way he is one happy dog! He loves all the burgers, steaks, chicken and fish that I cook. He hardly even touches his dog food. My husband now calls it "the DF word" LOL! So does everyone else feed their critters the Atkins way too? Oh, and Chester also loves the veggies we eat as well. He's a green pepper eating fool! Actually begs for green peppers and cucumbers...lol

Chester is a lucky dog! My dogs are jealous. lol I am a mean doggy mom and make them eat their kibble. Maybe I should try them on Atkins since they are overweight.

I don't have dogs but I have 2 happy kitties. I give then scraps of meat, and raw eggs or what ever I don't use, but I'm not making a plate just for them. One of my cats will eat anything you put in front of him, and the other is a little more picky. The pickier one loves bell peppers too, but only if they are cooked with tomato sauce in the oven (like pizza or casserole). The other tends to lean more towards broccoli...frozen broccoli. It is cute though to see them both run into the kitchen as I am cooking and beg for something to "accidentally" fall.

Oh yes I feed my dog a raw diet quite often and he loves it. It's also very good for him, and I find I save money. We have an almost 2 year old Rottie and it's helped him to develop lean, long muscles and not be a typical overweight bulky Rottweiler which is great for their hips, among other things.

Just be sure you aren't giving him any cooked bones

If my dog eats dog food it's only as a last resort. Unfortunately my mother moved in about the same time we got the puppy so regardless of my insistence that she eat only dog food it was not meant to be -- now instead of feeding me like she did for years she feeds the dog. At one time the dog had to go on a green bean diet to get some weight off her -- now she gets daily walks and plenty of ball throwing to keep her weight down. She still loves green beans and doesn't think of them as punishment (thankfully).

Not really sure if you're looking for advice, and I hope I don't offend by giving any.

If your pup eating table food is impacting her health, I know a great way that would stop that from happening WHILE training you pup and not upsetting your Mom! (My MIL lives with us so I sooooo know where you're coming from! LOL)

Since we have a rottie, it was imperative he knew his place in this house, and the best way to do that is by controlling his food. They are pack animals and the leader of the pack eats first and when they want. Since Marley is at the bottom of the totem pole, he ate after everyone else did. He's not allowed in the dining room while we eat either. We eat, then he eats. And when we place his bowl down..he must follow a simple command. We started with a paw when he was a pup, then moved up to down stays, and now that he's older, he follows the commands in another room from my 2 year old
If he does not eat what's given to him in an alloted amount of time, it gets picked up and we try later. (Again, it's not to be cruel, but a dog who has food when he wants it, confuses his role in the pack.) If you were to implement this, you will be able to control what he gets to eat, and help to train him and make him a phenominal pet as well

That's not to say he can'y enjoy an occasional piece of steak or what have you, but all food goes into the dog bowl, when YOU say so.

Again, I hope I'm not being pushy... I just wanted to share this in the slight chance it could help you
