  • No weight loss

    Hi all

I am on here out of desperation. I have done the Atkins twice before. Once in 2006 and last Summer in order to lose weight for holidays.
Both previous times I lost 2 stone. This time, I started the diet on June 17th and have still not lost even 1lb.

I am being strict - I have eaten Atkins chocolate but I did this last time and still lost weight. I drank wine from the start last time and still lost weight. I am doing everything the same but am getting really fed up as I am not losing.

I am not exercising, but again didnt have to last time. Thr weight fell off before and I have no idea why not now. The only difference is that I am on Citalopram now, but I have checked forums adn no one has said it has affected their Atkins diet.

Please can someone help me! I havent even reached ketosis.

I am barely eating anything, as my appetite has been reduced (as its meant to) and I am eating foods like beroccoli in cheese sauce, cod in parsley sauce with green veg. I am wondering if I am eating too much green veg, but I still think I would have lost at least a bit by now as I was living on carbs before the diet.

has anyone experienced this adn what is the solution?

    HELP required quickly!

    Re: No weight loss

You know very well what the problems are. If you are not following Atkins by the book, you cannot expect the results Dr. Atkins promised. Wine is not allowed during Induction. Low carb chocolate bars are not allowed during Induction. And as Dr. Atkins wrote, if you are not exercising, you are not doing Atkins.

Are the cheese and parsley sauces homemade? Otherwise they might be very carby.

If you are in Induction, you should be eating 3 cups of vegetables, either 3 cups of salad or 2 cups of salad and 1 cup of veggies from the "Other Vegetables" list. And you should measure everything, not eat a few spears of broccoli, a dollop of mayo, a bit of sauce, etc. Remember veggies should be measured raw.

You should also make sure you're eating enough fat. For Induction, the percentages you should aim for are 65% fat, 5% carbs and 30% protein. Use FitDay or something similar to track all your foods.

So the solution is following Atkins correctly. If you do this and still can't lose weight, then we can troubleshoot.

      Re: No weight loss

By the way, reduced appetite and weight gain are some of the possible side effects of Citalopram.

And it looks as if you are using Atkins as a quick way to lose weight, which is not what Atkins should be. The "diet" has four phases, and Induction is only the first of them. After Induction you should move to OWL, add back foods and find your CCLL. Then move to Pre-Maintenance and from there transition to Maintenance. If you do this, then you will be able to eat a large variety of foods and you wouldn't have to keep restarting Atkins (or any diet, for that matter) because you would know how to maintain your weight.

        Re: No weight loss

Hi Welcome to our international ADBB family

As Georgiana said, it might well be the wine affecting your losses, as the body will use it as a preferred fuel instead of the food you are eating and your body fat

In addition there might be some hidden carbs in what you are eating - commercial sauces are full of sugars on the whole

We do have a special forum where you can post your menus (including quantities and any fat used in cooking etc) so we can troubleshoot the foods you are eating in case some obvious problem shows up.
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
Take a look at the thread from the latest Veggie Challenge to see how others manage it!

          Re: No weight loss

Obviously as stated above you aren't following the Atkins plan and never have. You are following some made up version, which is why you aren't loosing weight. Atkins is not a fad diet to loose a few pounds for a date on Friday or to go on vacation in a month.

You don't give us any information on your height, weight, amount of any foods are you eating - making it very difficult to help you.

Since you don't have the book here is the thread on this site to help get you started. If you follow the plan the way it was written to the letter. You need to give up chocolate, wine - start exercising, eat the correct foods in the right portions - that is being strict.

http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.com/forums/atkins-diet-14-day-induction/77558-atkins-diet-induction-faqs.html – it’s a condensed version of everything you’ll need to know. Even through the stickies are a good start they don’t detail the entire program, so that’s why we suggest you have the book to follow.

*Eat a variety of meats, cheeses and vegetables. Also make sure you get your fats, carbs and protein in daily – www.fitday.com will help you keep track of this.
*Drink 64 ounces of pure water -nothing added daily (Legal water is considered Filtered water, Mineral water, Spring water and Tap water).
*Take your supplements and start an exercise routine today.

The Atkins shakes and bars (as well as other brands of these) are not legal on induction – there are non-induction ingredients in them and they are not listed on the acceptable food list.

If a food isn’t listed on the acceptable food list it doesn’t belong in your mouth – no exceptions! Look at the ingredients list and check it against the acceptable food list -- just because it says "low carb" doesn't mean you can eat it.

The recipe sites are a helpful meal planning tool – just make sure you use Induction Recipes to begin with.

              Re: No weight loss

Every time we do Atkins our experiences will be different. You will find that things that never bothered you before bother you now. Weight generally comes off more slowly each time due to age, changing hormone levels, and the fact you body has been fat longer. The things you could do before without any problem may very well be the things tripping you up now. Get the 2002 book and do it properly and you will see a difference. Then follow through with all the levels.

welcome to getting older... The older we get the more difficult it is to lose weight. Especially when our weight yo-yo's...

You are just going to have to put more effort into it this time... and yes it will take longer... hopefully this will be the last time you have to do this...
