  • Some brand new stuff!

Just wanted to let all my pals here on the forum know that I'm still here and still on the Atkins way.
I just discovered something. I've had a spaghetti squash on my kitchen counter for, shall we say, quite a while. So, I decided to cook it for part of our dinner this evening. I cut it open and do you know what I found? I found that the seeds had sprouted and started to grow squash vines! I knew it had been there for a while but not THAT long. Geez! So if you have a spaghetti squash, better cook it right away. Don't want to have a garden growing on your kitchen counter....

Wow! I've had speghetti squash on my counter for a long time and never had that happen. So are those the seeds that you can plant in your garden and grow squash?

Wow. I did not know that could happen even.
My MIL grows some nice spaghetti squash in her garden but not on her kitchen counter.
Glad you are hanging in there.

That was a fun story! Those squashes seem to like to propagate where you don't want them to. Years ago I had one that was a bit too old & getting a couple of soft spots. Rather than making my trash heavy with it, I threw it over the fence into the woods out back. I figured the squirrels would eat it (heck they eat wood & metal so why not squash?) or it would rot and become part of the landscape.

The next year I noticed these "things" out in the woods. It was the squashes...lots of them. I was never able to harvest them though as my days of scaling a 6' chain link fence have long past. Now if I had planted them in the garden, they probably never would have grown.

Great to hear you're still going strong, well done!!!
You can just put those little sprouts in the dirt and start harvesting your own person stash of spaghetti squash!
