I imagine that modified food starch is illegal, but having said that, there likely isn't very much in there.

It is not zero carb. The portion size they list may be small and this would allow them to say zero but I would count at least 0.5 carb for the portion.
It has sweeteners in it that you probably should count against your daily sweetener count for the day.
I think Heinz makes a ketchup with splenda you may want to look for too.

i count 1 carb per 2tbps which goes toward my 1 to 3 carbs of sweetner, and splenda is sucralose right so what would be the diference?

I use Heinz Reduced Sugar (or Low Carb - whichever your area has) Tomato Ketchup. It has 1 gm of carbs and is made from:

Tomato concentrate, distilled vinegar, salt, natural flavorings, onion powder, sucralose, spice.

There is another thread talking about it I saw this morning. I have made shrimp sauce with it a few times and haven't had any trouble with it. Heinz 1 Carb Reduced Sugar Ketchup Here is what it looks like. I get mine at Walmart or my local grocery store here.

The Walden ketchup also as maltodextrose - which is another sweetener type additive. I would go for the one with less chemicals if I had the option and the Walden products generally are very chemical like. Just my personal choice. I just mentioned it in case you did not know about that option.

Julie it is worth getting the Heinz. The taste IMHO is far superior to the Walden stuff.

                  Re: no carb ketchup

I've heard that...but it's tough getting low-carb anything where I live. I went down to the States about 6 weeks ago & stocked up on a few things..like sugar-free BBQ sauce. I usually only go once or twice a year...I could mail-order some stuff, but I'm afraid to even look on the sites right now - I know I'd want to order things I shouldn't

How on earth do you all manage to find these low-carb alternatives? My grocery store has none of these! So frustrating, particularly since I know the products are out there...

                      Re: no carb ketchup

I don't find many low carb products where I live. Finally decided it is probably better for me...without all the low carb products I am pretty much forced to keep things simple. I did just score some of the Heinz ketchup when I was in NY last weekend...I am so happy to have it.

I take ketchup (1tbsp usually) and 1/2 tsp horseradish and a little lemon (to taste), mix it all together and eat it....if you like more horseradish go for it -- I have been known to add equal amounts of ketchup and horseradish when I feel the need!!
