someone i was talking to the other day told me that when they stall in the induction phase that they lower their carb intake by 5net carbs and it kicks their weight loss back in. i dont think i believe this i just want to now if anyone else has heard of this or even tried it.

I have heard of people tweaking their carb intake but I am not sure how it affected them. I would try to stay as close as possible to 20 and just ride it out, assuming that I am sticking to the plan otherwise. I felt a slight surge in loss (I actually looked thinner the next day) when I added carbs. I don't weigh myself, but I have found that a strict induction followed by moving up the rungs has done well for me. So far, anyway!

You can cut down on carbs coming from things like store-bought sauces (often have some sugar added), sweeteners, cream. But cutting down on your veggies (which should be your main source of net carbs anyway) usually does more harm than good.

There is no need to stay close to 20 net carbs according to DANDR. That is a rule that was later added by Atkins Nutritionals, and they also changed the rules regarding the amount of veggies one should eat. If one follows the Rules of Induction and doesn't eat sweeteners, a lot of cream, etc., then the carbs should be safely below 20 g.

        Re: lowering carb intake

Technically, no one can stall in the Induction phase because a stall is four weeks with no weight or inches lost and Induction lasts only 2 weeks. During those two weeks the scale does lots of funny things and the time is so short you would be hard pressed to blame or praise any action as the source of a scale change.

Now if they are on Extended Induction they may actually stall and it is possible their carbs may be a factor. Many people say adding carbs actually breaks their stalls, too. So I don't think lowering the carbs is the only solution although it may work for somw folks, especially metabolically resistant folks. Having said that, I believe your body gets used to anything after a time so any change up or down in carbs, calories is likely to shake things up a bit.

            Re: lowering carb intake

I have lowered the carbs when I was on OWL - I reached a number 35-40 where I was not losing anymore and had to go under.
But I think this is the only time where this should be done. Other times if losses stops it is better to review what you eat. Figure out if you are breaking rules - like you are eating to much sweetener, too much cheese, to little fat, too little food, to many frankenfoods. These are usually the reason people cannot lose.

Hi Vanzion, since other folks will be reading this post, it is important we clarify the terms when we reply. That's why I explained the stall thing in the post. Because answers are for all reading them, including newbies who have limited information it is important to be clear about all aspects. Obviously, if it doesn't pertain to you, then you can set it aside. No one was pointing fingers at you, just wanted to make sure it is clear to anyone who stumbles into the thread.

                  Re: lowering carb intake

awhile back i couldnt lose weight when i ate nuts seeds or berries and later on i found out about the rungs and that they are rung 3 and 4

i had to stay at rung 2 tops in order to lose weight

also these 10 net carb whole wheat wraps stalled my weight loss back then i never knew whole wheat was rung 9 but now i see why its rung 9

so try to follow the rungs they seem to be very accurate

Like anywhere else, folks have different writing styles and sometimes folks just have a way of speaking that rubs me the wrong way. There were a few folks whose posts I actually avoid when I am in the wrong mood because I know they will irritate me. LOL

Just know that no one is intentionally rude some of us just state things bluntly or may be having an off day ourselves. I am sure Carole did not mean to offend, she just put it out there and her writing wavelength and your reader's wavelength were on different frequencies. No worries. I have long since given up taking anything on a message board too personally because if I do, I almost always misinterpret the mood/tone/etc.
