  • 9 months later...

I couldn't decide where to post this so this thread seemed as good as any. I have been doing Atkins for 9 months now and have lost about 50 pounds. I went from 202lbs to 153lbs. I am really having a tough time the longer I continue on this path. At first I was gung-ho and happy about all of the weight loss! I was so happy to hear all of the compliments I was getting and everyone around me telling me how great, healthy, and happy I looked. Now that I am very near my goal weight... it's a lot harder. It's really not so hard for me to eat low carb-- it's the emotional eating part! At first I didn't have any cravings and I really wasn't even all that hungry a lot of the time. All of a sudden I've had some stressful events and now I am hungry all the time. I am starting to get used to being the smaller version of myself and other people are too. I think that it is making it harder for me to keep moving forward. I still do want to lose another 15 pounds or so but I just can't seem to get past my current weight. I've been at this weight give or take a pound up or down for about 2 months now! Any ideas for getting through this phase??? Anyone else experiencing the same problems now that they have been doing Atkins for almost a year? I need some words of widsom and encouragement. I DO NOT want to gain back 50 pounds!!!

I cannot say I share your issue of having problem dealing with being smaller. But I have read several threads on it and I know this happens to quite a few people. So you are certainly not alone in this.

About the cravings - you are sure nothing snuck into your diet that is making your carve?
    Have you been OWLing?

Now standing still for months I am familiar with It has happened to me too. I have just let things happen and have not fretted about this and then things move again. I think it is not that easy to lose weight once you get close to so called "healthy weight" and it takes a lot of patience.

Lastly I am thinking you may get more responses in the main forum. I can move this over there if you like.

How many carbs are you having per day? Do you know what your CCLL is? When was the last time you upped your carb per day count?

The last time I lost a lot of weight I got really sick of hearing about it from everyone. I really felt like I should be able to eat what ever I wanted since I was at goal weight... and it was a bit depressing when I would gain just from eating what everyone else eats...

          Re: 9 months later...

I just got past a 3 month plateau. I went back on induction and started exercising for 30 minutes every morning on July 10th. I didn't lose any weight at all for over a week, and then it started dropping off. I've lost 5 pounds in a little over a week, and got my motivation and resolve to lose this weight back.

I want to get back to my ideal weight of 120, and I know I can do it. I maintained at 156.5 for 3 months, so I know if I lose the weight I can maintain it this time. You can too! Don't quit.

Another thing that helped motivate me was my vacation photos in June. I had lost about 25 pounds total when the pictures were made, but I am still too heavy for my height. Nothing like a dose of reality to put us back on track!!

I understand what you are saying about being at goal and thinking you should be able to eat normal again. I tried it for about a week and it did not work out. Just adding back in normal bread or too many carbs in fruit did me in. I really hate that I feel like I have to think carbs are bad for the rest of my life! A lot of people you go out to eat with don't undersatnd. They offer you a roll or want to split a desert...it's hard to say I can never do those things again...EVER! I know it's one day at a time and I shouldn't think about years from now..but it's hard! I honestly don't know what my CCLL is?? I really haven't been counting my carbs, so maybe I should keep a journal in order to count them and see where I am. I think I've been eating too much fruit and not enough vegetables.

I used to be a dance teacher so I dance in my living room pretty hard for about 30 minutes 3X per week. I probably should do it a lot more. I'm trying to get motivated again! I did really well in the beginning and then it slowly started to get less and less! I also do squats, wall sits, and crunches and then this pilates stretchy arm band thing.

I think the hardest thing, no matter what type of WOE you choose is maintanence - at first. You feel great, you've lost weight so easily that its easy to slip back into the old habits.

Hang in there! There are lots of great resources on the board. Search maintenance and last 15 lbs. I know you can do it, sometimes its the emotional part that we need to get ahold of before anything can work again.

Congratulations on your success so far!!!

Atkins is not a diet it is a way of life. I don't know anyone who has had to diet that has a CCCL level of 300 grams so don't ever expect to eat the recommended normal american diet.
