Anyone else sick of getting advice from friends?

When I tell someone I'm back on my diet to lose a few pounds, they flip out. I know I'm not overweight or obese, but I'd like to lose some fat. In come the:

"All you have to do is cut out the soda!"

Hello, I haven't had soda in years...

"If you want to get rid of the fat on your thighs, you should do leg lifts."

There is no such thing as spot training. I will not get into another argument about this. I've spoken to enough professionals, thanks.

    "But you're so skinny!"

I'm not skinny. Trust me, I see myself naked every day, I know where I need to lose weight. XD

I'm just so sick of this stuff... it's not like I'm nagging other people to lose weight. I was invited to a restaurant and when I said "Oh damn, I just went back on my diet, but maybe I can find something on the menu I can have." they flipped out at me with all this bad "advice". Advice from someone who has gained about twenty pounds in the past year, no less! It just irritates the **** out of me. I wish people would just leave me alone about it.

    Re: Advice from friends..

What really got me was when it was apparent I had lost weight, some people thought it was their duty to give me diet advice and exercise advice. And these people were as fat as I was either at my start weight or at my losing weight.

I remember this one pudgy man telling me I should run 10 miles a day.....Yeah, right.

I get this all the time. It is amazing. Sometimes, I want to talk about my diet with friends as a way of simply that, talking things out. ALWAYS, I get advice and reasons why I am wrong. From my friends. I don't get it.

Oh, yeah. Sorry for the double post, but how about this one?

Nobody said anything when I was shoving my face with cake and cookies and ballooning up to 250. Now that I'm eating healthy everybody has something to say. Usually about how unhealthy my foods are. Geez!
My doctor told me to stop having intimate dinners for four. Unless there are three other people.

Hahaha! Yes... Getting workout advice from women is a pet-peeve of mine, because often they think that reps are where it's at. I think the worst offender was a girl who said, "Well, I do reps and I have more defined arms than you do.."

And I'm just thinking, "Well duh, you also weigh 105lbs!!"

I sit next to a tall skinny guy at work who eats junk food all day & never gains a pound...for someone who's never had to diet, he's full of (useless) advice.

                Exactly!

Wait until you reach your goal....You'll have three groups of people. Group 1 will be happy for you and tell you look great. Group 2 will tell you "good job" but you can still stand to lose a little more (they might not say it in those words, but they imply it.) Group 3 will tell you they don't see a (physicial) difference in you. And everyone will continue giving you advice on how to keep the pounds off and some of them might even take credit for your loss because you did what they told you to do.

                  Re: Advice from friends..

The last comment that got to me was when I was talking about what I could eat and what I liked about eating this way (I tried not to sound preachy about it) and someone said I would be happy with it until I started eating like a normal person again, and that is when I would be happy. Eating like a normal person? Aren't you all normal? I seriously thought about this forum and that is why I could ignore it.

I don't know how many times I have said "everyone is different but this is what works for me".

                    Re: Advice from friends..

I really believe that, in many cases, it's a defense mechanism...specifically projection. I feel like people who lecture me on weight loss and diets (when they themselves aren't happy with their own weights) are simply saying "Well, I won't heed my own advice, but maybe you will. If I give you advice and you succeed, it's aaaalmost as if I succeeded!"

                      My usual response is:

"Are you a doctor? Or a physical trainer? Do you have any studies you can show me to back you up? No? Then piss off"

I'm often told by acquaintances (my friends support me) that Atkins is dangerous. I just smile and say, yes, I know ... but I love living dangerously. Some people I just don't feel I want to educate.

Here is another one - You know, you will gain it all back very quickly once you quit...

Who is quitting. This is for life. When I think about quitting, I read through the rungs again and remember what I will be eating for life. I think I can handle it!!
