  • anyone else feel this way?...

Ok - so first off let me just say this - I absolutely LOVE that I've really turned my life around and now I ONLY eat whole unprocessed foods - NO junk and I'm very proud of myself for that.

I sometimes do miss the taste of certain junk foods - but now that I've been doing this for 7 months and I know why junk food is bad - I absolutely can NOT allow myself to eat those foods again...

I'm all about whole - unprocessed foods that are the kinds of foods that your great-grandmother would have recognized as FOOD and not some chemically engineered frankenfood that your great-grandmother would look at and have no idea what it is. lol.

Now - with that being said - one thing I am TOTALLY missing. convenience.
we live in a busy world - and I am NOT the kind of person to make things at the beginning of the week to have "ready" during the week. I'm just not. I'd try to - do it once or twice and then just NOT do it. And don't give me ideas on how to - believe me, I know all the tricks - I'm just lazy. lol.

But seriously - I TOTALLY miss the "convenience" of a frozen lean cuisine or weight watchers smart one - to just pop in the microwave at lunch.

We have a cafeteria here at work BUT lately - it seems every time I eat in the cafeteria I get sick (i'm on Metformin and for those on Met you know what I mean when I say "sick"...). They have a salad bar and a sandwich bar - and if I don't get a salad I usually get:
EITHER a piece of grilled chicken or a hamburger
between two slices of lettuce with:
either Provolone Cheese or Monterey Jack
and topped with veggees (depending on my mood) either Tomatoes, onions, black olives, sprouts, banana peppers, etc...
And then I put mustard and/or mayo on the side

BUT - I'm SO sick and tired of eating the same thing day after day (even my salads are usually the same ingredients because they only have certain items on the salad bar)...

plus - the food there is pretty bland - especially when it's the SAME thing all the time.

I try to bring leftovers - but too many nights I get home and DH and I end up going out to eat.

Anyways - I guess I'm just needing to vent. Again - I will never go back to eating those things - but I just totally miss the CONVENIENCE of packing a sandwich and baked chips or a frozen meal.

    hmmm....what can I say?

Put your big girl panties on and deal with it!!! Suck it up buttercup! No one said it was going to be easy. If it was then everyone would be doing it.

Ya want the convenience of frozen meals then you have to stop being lazy and either cook ahead or make double and freeze..buy the family pack of meat and cook the whole package and freeze leftovers into individual servings. That is just the way it is. Consider it good practice for when you start a family. After all if you had kids you wouldn't be taking them out to eat all the time. You would find the time to feed them healthily...well...you are worth that time now.

That was my tough love...here is the other side...lolz

Yeah...it totally sucks! I agree! All the prep...but it is sooooo worth the hassle! And the cooking bigger portions and freezing ahead thing really works!

And btw...a few years ago I was on Atkins for 7 months and when I slowly fell into the carb abyss...french fries did not taste the same as they did in my head. In fact a lot of food tasted different than I remember...not in a good way. Thank goodness!!!!

Can you bring somethings to add to your salad that you would like? Your own dressing or something like that? Something to add to it or to have on the side? Just a thought. Or since you are paying for lunch anyway a salad from somewhere else?

Good luck...you can do it! You are going to look amazing in your dress!

I know EXACTLY what you're saying. I miss convenience, too. My hubby was in the hospital and I about went insane trying to find something I could eat out of the vending machine or the hospital cafeteria.

In everyday life, I do OK. For "convenience" food, I try to fill the fridge with cheese slices and shaved ham, turkey, chicken etc. that I can grab and roll. (I know -- limit cheese and be careful on lunch meats.) And I also try to cook up a bunch of stuff on Sunday afternoons that I can take to work as leftovers and eat for breakfast. But ugh. Sometimes I just want something fast and easy in a wrapper or cardboard that I can truly eat without a fork!

I am a fan of cooking once and eating multiple meals and freezing them. About once every couple of weeks, I make extra of one of my favorites and freezer extra dinners. This time of year, I've been hitting the farmer's market and making lots of stir fry meals for freezing ahead for those days when I need a quick meal. It is just one of the prices that I pay to eat whole foods instead of processed whenever I can.

I think all the convenience foods is how so many of us got fat. I've been dubbed "the leftover queen" and they are really a huge help rather than having to prepare a new meal 3x/day.

I absolutely agree - and I KNOW that - I'm just complaining because I WISH that the types of food I eat WERE convenient - but they're not.

so dammnit- I'm going to complain and loudly! lol

even if it means i'm here in this corner pouting alllll by my lonesome that's fine.

again - i will NEVER EVER EVER go back to eating the way I used to - I just REALLLLLLY wish that the foods that have come to be the staples in my diet WERE convenient.

sorry - but i'm NOT going to make my lunches every single sunday for the week. ya'll can tell me to suck it up - but uh-huh ain't gonna do it :P

(just one of those "i really want to complain" moments".

            QUICK EDIT:
I'm not mad or offended by anyone's replies - I'm just venting my feelings.

I would like to be able to reach into the freezer case at the store and get a legal meal also....god forbid if the Atkins Corp ever thinks (like weight watchers) THEY can make something...look what they did with the bars and shakes!!!

I've got to agree - I spend SO MUCH TIME planning, prepping & cooking food now! I know its worth it & won't give it up...but there are only so many hours in the day!!! Plus making time to exercise...my life is starting to revolve around my WOE.

Re: anyone else feel this way?...

When I was eating only whole foods, I used the crock pot a lot. I always had a soup in it. That way I could dip something out and eat anytime. Legal soups can get boring too, but still its easy to warm up for lunch and different from a salad. If the kids or anyone screamed for food, they got handed a bowl of soup. Didn't even have to unwrap it. It was warmed up, ready to go. I'd cook a whole turkey and bag up part of the meat, then make a turkey soup in the crock pot, a chicken soup, a veggi soup with hamburger or whatever, no bean chilli. Lots can find its way to a crock pot. The house always smelled like food. You never had to go hungery.... Yep, I gotta start stuffing the crockpot again. Just make sure you get one sized to run out after two days of eating on a soup, then its time for a new soup.

My starting weight was 235 lbs and I'm trying to get to 130 lbs.

                    1st mini goal: 145! met 12/09
                    2nd mini goal: 140!
                    3rd mini goal:135!
                    4th mini goal: 130!

I drink coffee. I drink when I am thirsty. I am just a low carber. Not on Atkins at all!!! He has everything to do with my weightloss and nothing to do with it, depending on who you ask.

Good rant...I definitely agree. But I am also one of those that the convenient, sugar-filled foods made very fat! Now that my habits of grabbing something out of a box are broken, I don't want to go back!

And Carole's right...let's hope the Atkins corp doesn't try it...they're sure to screw it up!

My hubby is the same, soup, chili & stew are "winter" food for him. I do make soup this time of year, but I freeze it in portions and we only have it occasionally. In the winter, I'll make something like this most week-ends. ...come to think of it...this summer has been so cold, rainy & generally cr#ppy that I might get away with it now...

I'm the same - its either "on" of off for me - there is no in-between. I have found that I don't need to use Fitday everyday anymore - that is saving me LOADS of time. I do expect to have to go back to it when I get closer to goal...but for now I'm melting at a good rate without it, and feel better not obsessing about the WOE quite as much! I think the other issue for me is that I insist on eating a variety of tasty foods - I can't eat the same thing day in and day out. It is a heck of a lot more work!!

Still, the bottom line is that it is WORTH IT! This is the first time in over 30 years of being obese (yes, since I was a small child) that I feel in control over my weight, and that I can stay in control forever.

Sharing with others that understand how I feel and the daily challenges that I face makes this SO much easier.I don't know what I'd do without you guys
