  • During a period, lbs go up?

    Hi!

    I have been in a period since the past 4 days and everyday I see the scale go up a lb.

    Is that normal?

    I thought the body retains water before a period, not during.

    Also my ketostix are showing I am in a very 'small' ketosis. I continue to eat 20 net carbs through it all & drink my 8-10 glasses of water.

    Although I have not been swimming for the past few days.
    Starting weight: 275 lbs
    11/03/09: 214.8
    Minigoal 1 : 220 lbs - Met 08/25/09
    Minigoal 2: 215 lbs - Met 10/10/09
    Minigoal 3: 210 lbs
    Minigoal 4: 205 lbs
    Minigoal 5: 200 lbs
    Final goal: 135 lbs

    I'll be interested to see the replies to this WLD, as I am 5 days into one and 12 days into my induction and i have lost 1lb !! AAAAhh!
    Lets hope it drops off at the end of TOM xx

      My weight goes up about a week (sometimes 2) before I start my period. Then it levels off (right now it has been leveling around 167 for the past 2 weeks) It usually stays up until right before I finish or a day or two after.

      Drink lots of water and try to avoid the scale right now.

        oooooohyes. like pp said..i start feeling the changes coming sometimes even two weeks before. the week and days leading up to TOM are filled with lots of excess bloat.

          I think that how the body reacts weightwise around that time of the month is a very personal thing as I have seen all sorts of patterns mentioned by lowcarbers here and elsewhere.
          Some people only lose weight during their TOM, others only in the middle few days between cycles, others gain weight before and lose it afterwards with some extra weight. It really is a YMMV (your mileage may vary) thing.
          The important thing is to work out what your body does so you are not freaked out every time
