So here I am starting the 6th week of the extended induction. I am finding it difficult because I have been at a stand still for a few days.... plus I am craving a sugar soda...but I havent given in because of the promise I made to myself to continue on this diet for awhile...I go to the drug store to pick up some more multi vitamins, for some reason the pharmacist asks me why I am choosing a brand of vitamins that has less iron, I explain that I am on the Atkins plan...well you would have thought I was committing a crime, boy did he give me the what for, for following "a terrible plan" as he put it that way to me. Anyway I am just wondering if there are more recent proven studies and scientific evidence of a low carb, particularly Atkins as a successful and healthy way to diet. I have noticed that my blood sugar remained the same 106, and my blood pressure hasnt really come down yet.. but I also know that by losing 10 percent of ones body weight, is when the changes show or so they say!!! Anyway thank you and wish everyone good luck!!!

Re: What is with people!!!!
I started this "horrible " diet a year ago. I did it for eight months and went to the doctors under the notion if my blood chems are at all out of wack or even higher than then where I was done with this diet and would get on my soap box negatively about it. Well when I went to the doctors here is what has happened. I have lost 30 pounds and am 1 doctors visit away from going off my blood pressure medicine. Also my chloresterol and trigyls are way down and liver and kidneys are right in line so much so that my doctor was impressed.
NOW I just did not eat the atkins way but I also drank alot of water and worked out 5 days a week 30-40 mins cardo and weight lifting ever other day monday through friday only.
So let them talk if is works and you are healthy or getting there that all that matters.

Re: What is with people!!!!
I got the same grief when I was on the South Beach Diet and so I haven't told anyone I'm on Atkins. I had to tell my doctors but as for everyone else, maybe sometime in the future if they ask how I lost weight.Originally posted by Browneyedmelly View PostI explain that I am on the Atkins plan...well you would have thought I was committing a crime, boy did he give me the what for, for following "a terrible plan" as he put it that way to me.
The general public seems to remember the original Atkins 72 plan and ONLY the Induction phase. The media has been no help over the years and so people think that Atkins is eating high fat foods and only protein and that's it.
I've found that people in general seem to be know-it-all's about whatever diet plan you may choose and are quick to mention how wrong you are for following whatever plan that may be. And that does get old quickly.

Re: What is with people!!!!
I once got a lecture from the cashier at Safeway because I was buying heavy cream, butter (it was on sale!), eggs, roast beef, and cream cheese (I had a coupon!). I was told those items were very unhealthy, etc. etc. etc. Curiously, she only focused on those items but ignored the cauliflower, kale, radishes, cabbage and mushrooms I threw on the counter.~Megs~

Re: What is with people!!!!
Hello ~ I started The Atkins Program on the 1st of 09' so Iam just starting my 8th month.
Iam just about 50 pounds gone & as of May 15th Iam off my High Blood Pressure & Type II Diabetes Meds!!!
I have Lupus/Fibro along with Nerve Dammage after a Motorcycle Accident a few yrs back so my exercise is very limited to Walking & Swimming.
The Office the I go to monthly has 2 Dr's the 1st is older & she dosen't support Atkins, the other is about 10yrs younger & supports Atkins, as a matter of fact her Husband is on the Program.
So go figure that & the older one is my Primary Care Dr so every month when my check~up's keep coming out better & better as I walk out the door I always say "hey Dr *** that's the rotten Atkins hard at work again" her reply "Iam not listening, see you next month keep up the good work"
guess just gotta love some people!!! LOL
Anyway its your body & no one else knows it better than you & your not out there telling others how to live their lives. That is what I tell others, I don't tell them to stop smoking or drinking which is unhealthy. So don't tell me how to get healthy which my results show, Iam doing very well on my own Thank You very much!!!
I hope that my ranting has helped you in some small way & have a GREAT rest of your Atkins Whole Foods Filled Weekend !!!

Browneyedmelly, glad to see your goal is 120.I assume that is the desired wt for your ht and gender.I see so many folks who are heavy but has a goal still in the obese range.Don't settle for nothing less than becoming lean.Extended induction has worked wonders for me and it should for you.

I promise you, when I get out of my lab, I'll pull Journal citations that dispels the popular idea that the Atkins Diet is dangerous. Trust me, on this board, there are people involved in many areas of life sciences, as well as the physical sciences. I'm one of those.Originally posted by Browneyedmelly View PostSo here I am starting the 6th week of the extended induction. Your blood pressure should significantly drop and so will your fasting blood sugar. At first, you will be losing a lot of water weight where the process is fairly similar to taking a diuretic. I don't have time now, but I'll get back to you.sigpic Me, at 195 lb. September 24, 2009. It's 5:30 a.m. and can't wait to hit the coffee.

Re: What is with people!!!!
Hi,
In life we "walk our own walk" there is no one out there that can, or will, do it for us. Nor us, for them.
Atkins is a life journey that is personlized just for you as an individual. No two journies are the same, that's for sure.
Welcome to the healthiest lifestyle there is, "Atkins". Congratulations on your weightloss so far. Not only are you losing weight but getting healthier inside as well. Your body chemistry is improving and your internal organs are healing from all the damage from the sad diet. "Standard American Diet".
As you go, you will recognize a pattern in your weightloss as well as your natural rhythm to your weightloss. It's not uncommon for there to be a "pause" in your weightloss, which is what you are experiencing now. It's not a stall untill you've gone four weeks without losing weight or inches.
Chapter 15, pge 182 DANDR.
If you are having sweet cravings, there's a supplement you can take to help curb that called L-Glutamine. Dr. A writes about it on page 135, DANDR. Here's more info on it- #24 . I'm a true believer in L-Glutamine!
What is important in the situation with your pharmisist, is that you know what works for you. And only you! It's not about them. When i'm in that situation, I don't waste my energy explaining. I just tell them I agree to disagree with them and move on.
Atkins reversed my Type-2 Diabetes within 48 days into this lifestyle, never to return again. That was nearly five years ago.
I kicked so many meds to the curb as well. My doctor supports this lifestyle and i've been seeing him for 12 years, he has seen me at my worst. Now he see's me at my best.
As far as your pause. You may want to move onto OWL and add just 5 more grams of veggie net carbs to your daily menu. You can't go wrong with more veggies, it's more fiber and so good for us. More likely than not, this will get the scale moving again.
Wishing you much success in your Atkins journey.
Remember "walk your own walk"
Sincerely, Sherri
