  • Why am I NOT losing weight?

I know you guys say not to keep getting on the scale but I just HAVE to. I haven't measured myself yet but honestly, I don't feel my clothes are any bigger on me either. I know this is only my third week but I have been reading all these stories of how the weight practically melts off everyone in the beginning and that is just NOT happening to me. Last week I exercised but I didn't this week because I'm sick. I also hear of how much energy you're supposed to have on this diet and I have to be honest, I am TIRED. I feel more tired then usual. I'm one with A LOT of energy so it's weird. I haven't cheated EVER and it's not TOM cause that was last week. Any input would be appreciated.

I would suggest that you go to "Review My Menu" forum and post a few days menu just to make sure that there isn't something in there you shouldn't have. :nod

if your diet is fine then the problem is probably exercise. To lose fat you need to do cardio more than half the week. Your goal should be 4-6 days per week. When you do cardio, you need to do a minimum of 30 minutes with a max of 60 minutes.

Cardio is only gonna be effective for fat loss if you are in your target heart range (usually walking will not get you there).

I usually do the bike and I ride vigourously for 20 minutes at 98-102 RPM's. I know I should do more but I go during my lunch hour so I don't have that much time. I know I need to do more exercise but still I should bel osing without, no? I also take step class and total body toning classes. I do the elipitical every now and then but that thing KILLS me. I have to work my way up again. I got lazy. I used to do a half hour and now 10 minutes wipes me out. I'll be back though. I promise myself

Precious you have only been eating this way for a few weeks. after induction it is normal for the body to take a break.

keep up the spirits, but nothing worth having ever comes without effort.

You have 100% control over how much you exercise and how intense you exercise.

I have posted elsewhere, but you can read about glycogen and how you need to do a cardio workout for at least 20 minutes before you start burning any real fat. That means it is much better to do one 30 minute workout than to two two 15 minute workouts.

I am not sure what 98-102 RPMs means on your particular bike, but you want to try and judge your intensity by your heartrate instead if RPMs.

Yes, you will need to break a sweat in order to be in your target hear range, so maybe during lunch is not the best time to do cardio unless you can also shower.

don't mean to bring you down, but no point wasting your time either

My heart rate is up to 157 when I ride the bike and trust me, I break a sweat (and yes, we can shower LOL). It's a vigourous workout even though it is only 20 minutes. I DEFINITELY have to get more time in though. The classes are 45 minutes and they are high cardio. Have you ever taken a step class? WHOA! Thanks for you advice! :wave

Precious the problem is most likely impatience. This comes alot with younger people like yourself. You lost 8lbs according to a previous post right? In three weeks? That is a great loss. People come into this diet sometimes thinking its a quick fix for fast weight loss. If you don't have a large amount to lose(how much do you need to lose by the wa?) then the weight loss will not be as big. Also, the third week is where almost everyone stops losing and picks up again in the the fourth and fifth week. I saw your menu...drop the morningstart bars like we advised before. Only eat whats on the Induction friendly list. You need to stick to a clean induction in order to get the most from this WOE. So in summary, CHILL, it is happening and you need to realize that the weight you lost so far is a great start. :icondance

LOL hulagrl1120 about my age. THANKS for the compliment (or maybe insult) because I'm 49 years old! I probably have 100 lbs to lose but I'll take 70. I WILL drop those bars. NO MORE BARS for PRECIOUS2!

haha...that was funny...I must've mixed you up with a student that had a similar problem...you are doing fine though honestly...8lbs is great...I really think dropping the bars will be helpful. Also, this may not be a cause but experiement with lowering the amount of cheese you eat each day. For some of us it causes slow downs in weight loss. Not necessarily your problem but you may want to try it out and see.

Also, up your water intake...64oz is the minimum so 67 is still a little low...also...the turkey and roastbeef are fresh...no hidden sugars right?

If I drink any more water I might as well MOVE INTO the bathroom. I'll see what I can do about that but that's a tough call. I will DEFINITELY eliminate the bars and I'll try cutting down on the cheese too and we'll see what happens. Yes the turkey and roast beef are fresh. Thanks for all your help! :joy

I had this problem too - took my body about 3 weeks to adjust to how much water I drink. I average 100-120 oz whereas before, my body was lucky if it got 8 oz per day. Your body will eventually get used to all the water, and will love you for it :hug

8 pounds in 3 weks is a great start espically when you took a wek off exercising.

As to your lack of energy are you taking your vits and supplements your body needs based on your food choices? If so then you might need to eat more as Dr Atkins advises that for any Atkinner feeling tired and says they are the only folk he advises to eat more in DANDR>

You can do some additional exercise after work or before work and still get your full workout time in. Studies have been done that now show we burn more fat breaking up exercie into several shorter time periods as thwet apost exericse mertabolic increase is going on more times for a lionger total time wg=hen you do more exercise times each day then 1 30 min you can do 2 15min.

HAng in there if you are insulin resistant then the eating of the Atkins program will help your body become more sensitive to the insulin you porduce and as a result you will produce less of it allowing your fats to come out and play cause when insulin is high they have to stay n their fat cells and just watch. But when insulin goes down glucagon comes out and poof fats comeout to be burned up and you will see inches of you melting off as you work your Atkins to a healthier smaller you.

SO real foods for breakfast, more water, more exerice supplements if you aren;t based on your neds and soon you will be posting I'm melting.

                            HAppy low carbing.

Don't know if the story of my journey will help at all, but I recently posted it, since I have been doing this WOE for 2yrs now, and as of March 28th, I have been a member of this board for 2 years. Anyway below is the link to my story.

I think losing 8 pounds in 3 weeks is wonderful, and when you read my story you will understand why.
